The Library is Open (03/24)

Rory situated herself behind the desk and became deeply absorbed in a well-worn copy of To Kill a Mockingbird.

[*cries at LJ* So sorry for the delay, people. For some reason, LJ hates my OCD and kept eating my comments. Hence why there is no lunchtime in the library today, unless I manage to fix it somehow.]

Rory waved ~~super-slowly, because of slowplay!~~

And Peter realized that for any number of reasons, he wasn't getting any work done. So he walked over to the desk~~, very slowly~~. "Hey, Rory. What's going on?"

"Stuff, and things," Rory said helpfully. "Tonight's the thingy, isn't it?"

"That depends on what thingy you're talking about," Peter said, grinning slightly.

"The thingy. The Zero thingy."

"There's a math thingy tonight?" Peter asked, putting on a very confused face.

"Oh, I'll just tell her you're not excited, then," Rory said casually, picking up her book.

"Who? Math?" Peter asked. "First off, I don't know anyone named Math, and second, who cares? I have a date with Zero tonight. I can't worry about any Math girls."

"She's all happy. Saw her earlier. Ooh! Ask her about the Teal Deer," Rory said.

"Teal deer?" Peter asked. He was wondering if he should have any clue what that meant.

"And I'm glad that she's all happy. Much better than the alternative."

"Yes, teal deer," Rory nodded. "Ask her about them. We're going to save them."

Peter just admitted that this wasn't going to make any sense right now and moved on. "Will do. Oh, hey, I just noticed your hair. It's back. It looks good."

"Thanks. A wallaby grew it back," Rory said solemnly.

Peter blinked. "Do koalas make you bald?"

"Don't be silly," Rory scoffed. "Anteaters cut hair, though."

"Huh," Peter said. He recognized this as insanity she and Bridge we're talking about one night. He wanted no part of that.

"Speaking of people with hair, I see Anakin's back. Never doubt the Word of Peter again."

"I was wrong to have doubted," Rory said, smiling a bit too broadly to really seem sorry.

"Well, you've learned your lesson."

"Crap. I still owe him an explanation about the arms," Peter said. "Maybe if I see him around tomorrow."

"You owe him an explanation?" Rory raised an eyebrow. "I didn't know you were actually telling people like, on a regular basis."

"People see a guy with six arms, they ask questions. I didn't have a chance to give a smartass answer in Skeeter's class the other day, but I promised I'd tell him later," Peter explained. "At the very least, he deserves a smartass answer of his own."

"Skeeter didn't help? Wouldn't she be able to?" Rory asked. "Oh, and speak of the devil (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/746799.html?thread=35688495#t35688495)."

"Could help but won't, which is just one of a few reasons why I'd like to see John Crichton do some real damage to her," Peter said before turning to Anakin.

"See who around?" Anakin asked, coming up behind them.

Rory turned and gave him a megawatt smile. "Peter was lookinating for you."

His breath didn't catch at her smile. Really. Not at all.

He grinned back. "Was he? Professor Skeeter gave us a free period today, told us to work on research. So here I am. Research--" he gave her a questioning look, "-inating?"
