"Last weekend saw you with an influx of potential children from your futures," Obi-Wan said. "I am led to believe this is not an unusual occurrence..."

Anakin shook his head. "It happens annually, or near enough. Some of those children are more likely than others. Some are practically impossible."

Sorry, Tebb.

"Whereas others might be almost unavoidable," Obi-Wan said wryly. He had had none, which suited him fine. Minding Anakin's children from a distance was enough for him. "Normally, prophecy does not take such... practical forms. But regardless of what form they take, notions of what the future might be are often vague, and easy to misinterpret. It is such ideas about the future we would like to speak of today."

"Precisely," Anakin said. "And prophecies are notoriously unhelpful and stupid about such things."

Not that he was suuuuper bitter or anything.

Obi-Wan began to pace around the room. "So now that you have met these children and seen these futures, my question is: would you work towards them? Work away from them? Do you believe it is even possible to do such a thing? And if you had no children, do you believe that says anything about your future?"

Celia wasn't trying to nap, but she was also reluctant to answer the question for a few reasons. First, and most importantly -- the theoretical father of her theoretical child (children, since she'd said she had siblings) shared this class, and the question of whether Elizabeth ought to be something to be hoped for was a matter better left for private conversation.

But there was another reason she was quiet. Celia had woken this morning from a vivid dream about her mother -- which was odd mostly because she couldn't remember the last time she had.

And now, as she sat in class with her chin cradled in her hand, she found her thoughts drifting to her mother again, stubbornly refusing to focus into anything more productive -- rather, she was finding that if she really thought about her, she could picture her face. Celia hadn't been able to do that for years, now.

Ichabod chose to be equally quiet on the matter. He glanced at Celia during the lecture, trying to guess what was on her mind, and, noting that she looked thoughtful, considered whether it would be a matter to discuss later.

"I don't want kids," Ronan said, shaking his head. He had enough to worry about besides other greywarens wandering around. "I don't plan on having them and if someone ever asks, I might punch them."

Maybe.

"So this weekend has only solidified a decision you had already made?" Obi-Wan asked, tilting his head. "Have you any interest in mentioning why?"

He phrased like that deliberately. He'd met Ronan before.

"So, I do want kids someday, and my kid this time was adorable," Alana began, because it was impossible to talk about Ruby and not mention that. "But it seemed like she was kind of a thing that happened because I didn't have better ideas? From what she said it sounded like I hung around on earth after graduation and eventually ... y'know, the birds and the bees."

Somehow it was hard to frankly mention sex around Jedi. She thought she might spontaneously combust if she tried.

"And that's not something I'd work toward," she said. "Not like home is so great, but it's home. I don't want my life or my kids to be what happens because I suck at planning."

Face shrugged. "I seemed to have decided to cut myself off at the pass," he said. "My kid deliberately didn't tell me anything I could use to figure out how she came to be except that she was adopted. Which I could have guessed myself without much trouble."

"Did you already expect to have a child at some point in your life?" Obi-Wan asked.

"I did not have any children visit," Minako answered politely - if somewhat coldly. "I choose to think it does not mean anything one way or the other. Maybe I'm a really good mom and taught her children not wander off through strange glowing doors. Or maybe none of my futures or alternate selves have children, but while I'm not the best at math, I'm preeetty sure the odds are against that."

"But I won't know until I get to the future - which you can never actually - do," FAMOUS LAST WORDS, MINAKO. "So why worry about what that says about the future?"

The gods and their prophecies had already toyed with Soren's life quite enough, thank you.

"No one showed up for me," Soren shared. "But I wouldn't have expected anyone to, had I known what was coming. Right now, the possibility of children seems- extremely unlikely."

Obi-Wan raised an eyebrow at the phrasing of that statement - but that was also what made him avoid pressing.

"And you are content with this?" he asked. "Would something have changed in your perception if a child had shown up?"

"I wasn't here for the weekend," Kaylin said, looking a little baffled. "And I didn't have any children show up. At least not other than the one I was helping to birth."

Wouldn't that have been great. The other Hawks would never have let her live it doen.

"But I don't think I should have children."

She hadn't done a good job of taking care of them before.

"I had two," Kathy said softly. "But I really doubt either of them happening. That's not the kind of relationship I have with their fathers, for one, and I don't really see that changing. I want kids, and I'm sure I'll have them someday, I just don't think it's likely they'll be either of those."

And part of her was sad for that, as both Zeke and Carys had tugged on her heartstrings a lot.

"And having so many demanding your attention did not put you off of the concept?" Obi-Wan asked, smiling faintly.

That person was not Obi-Wan, at least, who looked mainly thoughtful, as per usual.

It had been an interesting weekend.
