"Last weekend saw you with an influx of potential children from your futures," Obi-Wan said. "I am led to believe this is not an unusual occurrence..."

Anakin shook his head. "It happens annually, or near enough. Some of those children are more likely than others. Some are practically impossible."

Sorry, Tebb.

"Whereas others might be almost unavoidable," Obi-Wan said wryly. He had had none, which suited him fine. Minding Anakin's children from a distance was enough for him. "Normally, prophecy does not take such... practical forms. But regardless of what form they take, notions of what the future might be are often vague, and easy to misinterpret. It is such ideas about the future we would like to speak of today."

"Precisely," Anakin said. "And prophecies are notoriously unhelpful and stupid about such things."

Not that he was suuuuper bitter or anything.

Obi-Wan began to pace around the room. "So now that you have met these children and seen these futures, my question is: would you work towards them? Work away from them? Do you believe it is even possible to do such a thing? And if you had no children, do you believe that says anything about your future?"

Anakin laughed. "He's certainly something, huh?"

"He's very cheerful," Obi-Wan said, wryly. "Apparently I'm about to make something of an impression on Luke."

Anakin nodded. "You make quite an impression on most people."

"Most Jedi do," Obi-Wan demurred. "In any case, it is a thoroughly strange experience to have a Skywalker running around with my name. I hope it doesn't bring him any further burdens."

"The last name more than the first," Anakin said with a wry twist to his mouth.

"Quite a legacy we've left behind," Obi-Wan said, and while his mouth didn't twist, his tone was equally wry.

"Yours is decidedly less dark than mine," Anakin said.

"Perhaps," Obi-Wan said.

He stared out at the wall for a moment or two.

"So I didn't mishear the radio when it mentioned you finding yourself with another child this weekend?"

That, at least, held some attempt at bringing the conversation back to something jocular.

"It did seem a little unusual," Obi-Wan said dryly, "Unless there's something you haven't told me about Master Rand."

He didn't think so.

Obi-Wan let out a soft chuckle. "I thought so."

"Well, there were a lot of reasons you were the diplomat," Anakin teased.

"Next time, keep it to a concise 'no'," Obi-Wan said sagely. "If they insist after that, it is clear to anyone else they are badgering you."

...Not that he'd had similar conversations before.

Anakin burst out laughing. "And no one ever believed me when I said you were secretly a little shit."

"I am not a little shit," Obi-Wan said primly, "I am a diplomat."

Primly in a way that involved smirking, somehow.
