Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was a new year, and with the new year came the new spring term, and Fandom High was all set to welcome its new students, along with those just returning from holiday trips home. It was a familiar setting for the latter bunch: there was the requisite bonfire, with tables and chairs scattered around it, as well as the buffet table with moldable warm food and drinks.

And of course, name tags and lists of Big and Little Siblings as well as roommates. Yep, the weather was okay for early January, and Fandom was all ready to celebrate the start of a new term.

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Okay, weirder things had happened to Jack than being swept to some airport, wandering onto the shuttle, and then finding out that there was a table with a nametag sitting on it waiting for him. And a sibling assignment. And a room. And a class schedule.

But hey, some Tony kid was assigned to explain what the heck was going on, here? Jack didn't really expect much to come of that, considering he hadn't been seen by mortal eyes in his entire 300 years, but it would probably be interesting to see what happened.

He was looking pretty amused as he wandered around, checking nametags to see which of these poor schmucks had been paired off with the 'imaginary' kid.

That poor schmuck was looking around, trying to find 'Jack Frost'. Which, you know, sounded kind of like a villain name.

Just sayin'.

"Jack Frost? Is there a Jack Frost here?"

Hey, there was nothing wrong with a little good-natured mischief, was there?

"That'd be me, right here," Jack said, sauntering up to Tony, standing right in front of him, putting one hand on his hip, and smirking. "You know, the guy you're staring at?"

He wasn't expecting much in the way of conversation from this one.

She was a girl! She was even pretty cute (if she said so herself).

Karina was cautiously optimistic about the whole big-sib thing. After the dinosaur on the shuttle, she figured this place probably had a higher getting used to curve than most places. Having someone assigned to tell her what was up would be pretty nice.

Checking out peoples' nametags, after putting her own on, she wandered until she spotted the right name.

"Jeremy?" Smile, Karina, he was kind of cute. "Hi! I'm Karina. Unless there's another Jeremy about, I think you're my assigned big brother?"

Evan was bouncing on his toes as he wandered around the picnic, looking for someone who looked like royalty. And it was probably easy enough to assume that it was because he was excited to be paired off with a prince, sure, but mostly it was because he had a sibling at all. The school had given him a responsibility, and now he was going to do the best job at it that he possibly could.

Hopefully he'd put together enough informational materials for his new sibling to really get an idea of what he was getting himself into. His arms were pretty full of printouts from the library about gremlins and weird weather and invasions, but he hadn't been able to find anything about pink ponies anywhere.

Po was doing his best to look fairly lost, but was actually following the stray line of thought that someone was looking for him. So what may have looked for a desperate attempt to find someone familiar was actually more an exercise in matching thought-to-person.

"Evan?" he asked, finally finding a boy who looked to be right. The thoughts matched up most evenly near him, anyway. "If you're not, I'm about to prove quite a fool."

"Evan, right," Evan replied, offering Po his most brilliant smile and a nod, clearly pleased that his sibling had at least gotten the hang of finding another person in a crowd. "And you're my little sibling this semester? Prince - um..."

Sorry, Po. He needed to take a second to look at his assignment sheet and double check your name. He really didn't want to get it wrong.

"Greening Grandemalion."

He said that right, right? Did he say that right? Gah!

Alec had been assigned to a Katherine Bishop, apparently, which was just a tiny bit confusing because he couldn't seem to find anyone by that name. The especially frustrating part was that he knew he'd be mocked endlessly by Jace if it turned out he lost his charge before he even met her, so he was pretty sure he'd be spending the entire picnic looking around.

Gert wasn't sure how she felt about having an older kid assigned to show her around the school, but after all the traveling she'd done this morning, she was less than enthusiastic about things in general. She begrudgingly affixed a name tag to one of the straps of her backpack so this Hanna person could find her, then got to work setting up a water bowl for the seven-foot dinosaur at her side while they looked around.

This was definitely not what she'd been expecting.

[identity profile] new-it-girl.livejournal.com 2013-01-05 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hanna certainly was not expecting a dinosaur accompanying her assigned sibling.

"So, you're Gertrude?" she asked hesitantly after glancing at the name tag. The dinosaur made her a little nervous. It didn't seem to be eating anyone, so she figured it was safe.

But...dinosaur.

"Gert," Gert corrected Hanna immediately, because... ugh, Gertrude. "This is Old Lace. She's not going to bite."

Bay had decorated her nametag with a sketch of a bay tree -- you had a lot of extra room on nametags if your name was only three letters, so being artsy definitely helped.

She wasn't quite sure what to expect from this big sibling thing. She really hoped this Karla person wasn't just in it to haze new kids.

Oh. Oh Bay. Karla would be apologizing in advance if she knew--okay, Karla was apologizing in advance. But you'd figure out eventually that she wasn't hazing you!

"Bay?" Karla had been glancing at people's nametags, since she had no idea whether 'Bay' was a male name or female. "Hi! I'm Karla, you're new older sib!" She waved at Bay and grinned. "Welcome to Fandom!"

She'd even left Nemit back in her dorm today, just to help and not shatter your mind completely! ...Though seeing Old Lace, she was rethinking that decision a bit.

"Hi," Bay said, trying to match the other girl's enthusiasm. "Nice to meet you. So you get to show me around or whatever?"

Which was fine. New kids got tours at Buckner, too.

Victor had no intention of breaking anybody; he might even make it through an entire conversation without sharing the fact he was a robot.

He stuck his hands in his coat pockets and huddled up a bit against the cold as he looked for Emily. After a day in Malibu, the east coast in January was just unfair.

Emily would surely appreciate the thought. She had her tag on, and was looking for Victor, whoever he was.

And after a little while, lo and behold, someone named Victor was right there in front of her.

"So," she said right off the bat. "Weird stuff; hit me up."

She would appreciate the thought, but she really didn't need it, not much.

Victor blinked at her, then shrugged. "How weird exactly do you want me to get?" he asked. "'Cause I don't want to start at 'there are people here from different dimensions' if what you wqnted to know is more like, 'there's a bar in town that doesn't card."

Stiles had no idea how he ended up with sibling duty after only being here for a semester but he supposed he was qualified for the job. Maybe more than qualified if you also took in Beacon Hills experience.

Let's see if he could find this kid first, then he could judge his big sibling qualifications.

Charley had one of those helpful little name tags at least. And was looking for someone with the most unfortunate name ever.

He was pretty sure that 'name' was possibly a loose interpretation for this Stilinski kid's given name.

Seriously now.

At least he understood it was a nickname rather than assuming his actual name was Stiles Stilinski like a dumbass.

It didn't take Stiles long to find Charley thanks to the whole name tag thing. He prided himself on his reading comprehension. "Charley! Hi, I'm Stiles, and I hope you're the Charley I'm looking for."

Because he was tired of looking for people.

Big siblings? Well, it sounded helpful enough to Maddie, who still half expected this place to be filled with people who'd knock her books out of her arms at every opportunity like a normal school. So sticking a name tag on and trying not to feel too weird wearing it, she started looking for someone named Shira.
