Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was a new year, and with the new year came the new spring term, and Fandom High was all set to welcome its new students, along with those just returning from holiday trips home. It was a familiar setting for the latter bunch: there was the requisite bonfire, with tables and chairs scattered around it, as well as the buffet table with ~~moldable~~ warm food and drinks.

And of course, name tags and lists of Big and Little Siblings as well as roommates. Yep, the weather was okay for early January, and Fandom was all ready to celebrate the start of a new term.

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Stiles had no idea how he ended up with sibling duty after only being here for a semester but he supposed he was qualified for the job. Maybe more than qualified if you also took in Beacon Hills experience.

Let's see if he could find this kid first, then he could judge his big sibling qualifications.

Charley had one of those helpful little name tags at least. And was looking for someone with the most unfortunate name ever.

He was pretty sure that 'name' was possibly a loose interpretation for this Stilinski kid's given name.

Seriously now.

At least he understood it was a nickname rather than assuming his actual name was Stiles Stilinski like a dumbass.

It didn't take Stiles long to find Charley thanks to the whole name tag thing. He prided himself on his reading comprehension. "Charley! Hi, I'm Stiles, and I hope you're the Charley I'm looking for."

Because he was tired of looking for people.

It was a pretty exhausting day...

"Unless there are more Charleys here than expected, you've got me," he replied, glancing down at his own totally cool name tag.

Okay, that was a lie. No name tag looked cool.

"Well Charley is a pretty common name," Stiles pointed out. "Though most people don't spell it after the most painful experience on Earth."

Charley horses were the worst, trufax.

"So I guess that means you're badass or something."

"Well, you've got to be subtle about it," Charley replied. "No need to overwhelm people with the badass... ness."

"Wise decision." Though nobody was likely to find this kid badass what with his adorable curly Isaac hair that Stiles was trying not to touch. "So where are you coming from?"

His curls were the bane of his existence. C'mon, guys! He was a badass vampire hunter! Stop ruffling his hair!

"Vegas. Just outside the city, actually."

"And you decided to go to school in Maryland?" Stiles asked, lifting an eyebrow. "Aren't you afraid things will get boring?"

"Boring is nice. Boring is something I could totally live with." A beat. "And there was a dinosaur on the bus."

Just so you know, Stiles.

"Aw, damn, and here I was going to spring it on you," Stiles said, snapping his fingers. "Yeah this place is totally screwed up."

"How screwed up are we talking?"

"You saw a dinosaur on the bus, man." That's how screwed up we're talking.

"Yeah, but I can rationalize that away as some kind of traumatic hallucination." A shared one. Damn it.

"None of this is a hallucination," Stiles said. "Most likely if you see it here, it's real. Dinosaurs, gremlins, talking ponies, it's all real."

"Quiet really would have been nice," Charley decided, staring out at the crowd.

"Yeah I thought that too when I came here," Stiles said, tilting his head to the side a little. This all seemed familiar. "You're not freaking out."

"I had an emotionally scarring adventure before coming here." He would have said 'interesting' but really, the 'emotionally scarring' was more honest.

"Emotionally scarring meaning...?"

"Vampires." Ah, nice and succinct.

"Ah. I know the feeling. Only with werewolves," Stiles said. "And I'm being completely serious, I'm not trying to make you feel better. I'm not the type to do that."

"Werewolves are real?" Oh god, he was going to have to read freakin' Dusk now, wasn't he?

"Really, dude, why are you surprised?" Stiles asked. "You've dealt with vampires."

"Yeah, and I don't want to deal with more things that want to eat me." And his mom. And girlfriend. Ugh, vampires were the worst.

"Well to be fair the werewolves and vampires here won't eat you," Stiles said. "I mean, not unless you're a complete evil jackass, I guess."
