Detention, Depths of the Castle, Friday

So, one of the important things to realize about detention was that the monotony of everyone's daily lives was part of the punishment. That meant that even though someone had died yesterday, the day's schedule didn't change a bit.

After all, most of your little lives just weren't that important in the grand scheme of things.

Bobby didn't care to chat with anyone, no. He also wasn't going to let go of the body he'd been cradling in his arms since yesterday afternoon.

Jamie sat and stared at Bobby with a sad look on his face.

"Marie?"

No. No. This was Sookie and she was with him and nobody, nobody would take her from him ever again. Gently, Bobby brushed a few strands of hair from her entirely too still face.

There wasn't any real need to speak, Stark thought. But he was just going to take up residence over here in the general vicinity of Bobby and keep his eye on him.

He could remember, from what felt like another lifetime, being able to appreciate that someone else was near and watching over him, just in case. He hoped Bobby would feel the same. And if he didn't, Stark was still going to be there. It wasn't much, but it was something he could do at least.

Stark hadn't tried to take Sookie from him yesterday, and he probably wouldn't today, he reasoned. In fact, from the way he was watching, Bobby suspected he might even step in if someone else tried to take her. So... yeah. Bobby had no problems with Stark sticking nearby, if he wanted.

Not that Jaye was especially looking to make friends or be consoling or anything (unless maybe it was opposite day) but at some point she came over and placed the lion next to him. "He's a good listener," she explained. "Just in case."

And as she started back to her corner away from the Bobsookle, she turned back just long enough to say, "And I want him back."

Please note: this was not her being nice. This was totally a bribe in case she thought she could get away with asking for ice tomorrow.

Dinah didn't know what to say any more than she had yesterday. There was really nothing to say.

"We're still here, Bobby." Dinah's voice faded. "When you want us..."

Alex crouched at what was basically minimum safe distance--maybe he should drag the frost giant over here to help out--and told Bobby bluntly, "Listen, I get that this sucks, but you have to snap out of it. You're Iceman. You're an X-Man, you're a hero. We need you to get it together."

"We should do something," Jack said to anyone who might be listening. His voice sounded a bit feeble, though it gained strength as he kept talking. "Either plan a memorial or figure out some way to charge the guards, I don't care, I just can't sit still today."

Dinah dropped to her knees next to him, eyes still on Bobby and Sookie. "Maybe after our so-called dinner? Maybe it'll bring Bobby out of it."

"Maybe," Jack said, sounding uncertain. "He seems -- pretty far gone. But it might help the rest of us."

Jonothon wasn't speaking, today. In fact, he wasn't really doing much of anything at all.

He was sitting in silence, still as the grave, eyes narrowed toward the door that the loyalist visitors entered through. Occasionally, he'd blink. That was the only indication he gave that he wasn't just a dead man burning.

He might acknowledge you if you approach him. But he wasn't going to be actively seeking out company, today.

And that would be a hand being waved in front of Jono's face.

"Don't be offended if you're not actually catatonic," April said.

It took Jono a moment to blink up, but he did, turning his head just slightly in April's direction and raising one eyebrow.

//I was thinking.//

... In a very focused sort of way.

It was likely that if anyone cared to try to chat with Florida she would not flee, or attack. She knew enough to know the difference between fellow prisoners and their enemies.

So she'll just be under her cot if anyone's interested.

Calvin half-shuffle half-slunk over to Zoe, Hobbes clutched against his chest. He kept glancing down at him, head tilted to one side, before looking back up at Zoe.

Bruce was able to breathe today. Able to move but didn't really care about it at all.

In fact everything around him meant nothing. Everything that had happened to him before and after coming to Fandom meant nothing.

He was just indifferent. Damn it, Raven.

He flopped back down on his cot only for it to squeak a bit when it rubbed against the wall. He looked at the cot where it had rubbed against the wall and...

seemed slightly mystified. What had happened just now? The scrape against the wall had triggered something.

But what?

No pacing today for Stark. He was just crouching against a wall, near to and watching Bobby.

There was still whispered praying. He found the repetition comforting, sometimes. At least it was familiar. Though if you listened closely he was talking to himself as well. Or to a voice in his head. It was hard to tell the difference. Sometimes he wasn't even sure.

Dinah had been pacing the confines again, with occasional stops to talk to people.

Rinoa had skipped breakfast. She didn't actually realize she had skipped breakfast.

Her garden was black and twisted and sad. So she couldn't go there any more.

She was never going to see her puppy again, because they were going to die here like Sookie did. And her puppy was dead. Everyone was dead. She had been right on Monday. They were all dead, just in varying degrees.

And so she took her duster off and wrapped it around a small part of her bedding. And she cradled that lump in her lap and talked to it and petted it. And then picked it up and pretended it could hear her and reply.

Anyone passing close by might catch the occasional half-hearted "woof, woof bark."

Off in a corner, Zayne sat crosslegged and talking to himself. If anyone paid careful attention, they would hear a small but strangely confident voice repeating a the same thing over and over.

"There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force."

It was that last point that seemed the most valuable today.

Dojima was keeping an eye on those she thought of as the 'littles,' the ones who hadn't been here as long as she had - which, made most of them littles, honestly - making sure none of them suddenly tried to suffocate themselves with their pillows.
