Detention, Depths of the Castle, Thursday

Another beautiful day had begun in Fandom, not that anyone in detention would have noticed. The lack of sunlight, the pleasant sound of Umbridge's voice, and the slightly stale smell of breakfast were all important aspects to making every day in detention routine! Surely everyone knew that surprises were no fun.

Look, the week was half over already and no one had been taken out and killed so far. That had to count for something, right?

Dinah was not talking to herself, or singing. She was very quietly reciting Henry V, trying to remember all the speeches. A Midnight's Summer Dream would be next.

That's what she did on Thursdays. It was the routine. It kept her rational and occupied, and that was half the battle.

[Again, SP, although I should be on a bit earlier tonight.]

Jonothon spent his afternoon on his feet, and pacing, today. There was an... an itch in the back of his head, pieces of a puzzle slowly being fitted back into place and some of those pieces were bits of his own broken self.

He hadn't realized until the other day just how fragmented he'd let himself become over the years. But now, with Liara's help, he was scrounging around the edges of his self for pieces that he'd never allowed into the equation, and besides that low, seething anger that had been keeping him tethered in sanity, there was something else, too.

Oh... was that was confidence felt like?

"How are you doing?" Liara asked as she passed by Jono on one of her little rounds.

He was by far and away the easiest human to pick out. The fire made him stand out.

Stark wasn't really talking to himself. He was, very quietly, reciting prayers while he paced. He didn't think it would help. But he was sure it wouldn't hurt. And it gave him something to do. He had woken up restless, which was never a good sign.

Sookie was more alert today than she'd been in weeks. She looked around the room, studying each of her fellow prisoners.

They were a powerful group. Smart, too. How had this happened to them?

She wanted to go away, to create a safe space in her head to share with Bobby, but not today. She wouldn't weaken herself again today, as much as she wanted to.

She spent her hours working against her mind, keeping herself in the present and focusing on the here and now. The coolness of the floor, the sound of the others breathing and talking, the brightness of the lights.

She was here.

"You seem more alert," said Liara, the ever-observant. "I had been concerned."

Goose was not talking to himself but rather he was playing over in his mind various conversations and training exercises that he had had at Wolf Den before the incident had happened.

Wolf Den wasn't exactly a happy memory but he preferred that to the constant reminder of being locked up in detention. It at least gave him a distraction every now and then when he would let himself think of the other Supertroopers as he wondered what they were doing right at that moment.

Cassidy was still in the same place she had been when Raven left her yesterday. She was silent though, her voice gone and throat sore from screaming and then crying the rest of the night as she was trapped in the nightmare Raven created to break her down.

Florida was not what you would call an outgoing person. In face she spent most of her time hiding both from the visitors and her fellow prisoners.

But she found she couldn't ignore this girl who was even more distressed than she was.

She crouched near her, and grunted, softly, questioningly, and what she imagined was a comforting tone.

Eve was pretty much officially gone, sanity speaking, but even in her current state she couldn't help but want to help someone who looked even worse off than she was.

"Hey..." she murmured, sitting next to Cassidy.

"Oh, man," muttered Britta, with a side-eye towards anyone who might be listening right now, "I would do anything for a cigarette right now..."

And that side-eye included a not-nearly-as-subtle-as-she-thought implication that she meant it, too. Hey, you never knew until you tried. She'd actually like a whole lot more than just a cigarette, but this was the longest she'd been sober since she was probably fourteen, and she was getting a little desperate.

"Tell me about it," April said dryly from where she was examining her nails and trying to will them to look any different than they had over the past few months. So far, no luck. "What's prison without bartering smokes, anyway?"

Do you know how horrible it is to wake up with a song stuck in your head when you were stuck in a place there was pretty much no hope of getting it out? It's pretty damn horrible, okay?

She was trying not to hum out loud, but let's just say 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall had turned into 999 Bottles of Beer on the Wall just because she knew she was going to need way more than 99 verses to keep herself occupied today.

Sometime around verse 741, April stuck her head up from where she'd lain it in her hands. "You gotta stop that," she begged.

Liara wasn't talking to herself either. She was finally back up on her feet, earnest eyes shining bright as she walked around detention and looked towards her fellow prisoners.

She was finally starting to learn how to discern one human from another. That was exciting.

Florida peered curiously out from under the table at the blue skinned girl. She'd never seen anything like her till she arrived here.

April was giving up on shoes today. Actually, she was giving up on a lot of things related to looking presentable, and was considering laying on the ground and making floor angels.

So far she hadn't yet, but it was a near thing.

Jack was back on the reciting Plato project. He didn't want to forget any of the books he'd read, and he hoped at least some of his companions would find some inspiration in sentiments like, "Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws."

But it was clear the days were wearing on him. He hadn't bothered even running a hand through his curls to smooth them that morning, and his hair stood everywhere.

Bobby wasn't talking to himself! Or even Emma. Or... anyone, at the moment, really. He'd retreated into silence after Raven's visit yesterday and apparently planned on staying there for a while.

Hanna sat in a corner silently. She wasn't talking to herself or to anyone. She was checking her imaginary cellphone for text messages, though. Hopefully there weren't any texts from 'A' this time...

"You really think that anything is going to pop up on there?" Elphaba said, standing over Hanna to loom just a bit. "That's almost adorable."

She laughed, in that manner that turned from a sane laugh to a mad cackle... and ended with a bit of a cough.

Rinoa skipped breakfast. Rinoa couldn't eat. Squall was in agony. And had given up. And wasn't looking for her. And was in just as much pain as she was.

The two thoughts battered at her fragile mind. That Squall was suffering, as much as if he were in here, and that Squall had given up. She had broken him: that was bad. He was no longer looking for her: that was ... she didn't know if it was worse.

If she had broken Squall, did it even matter if she got out of here?

She closed her eyes and tried to make herself very very small.
