Detention, Depths of the Castle, Thursday

Another beautiful day had begun in Fandom, not that anyone in detention would have noticed. The lack of sunlight, the pleasant sound of Umbridge's voice, and the slightly stale smell of breakfast were all important aspects to making every day in detention routine! Surely everyone knew that surprises were no fun.

Look, the week was half over already and no one had been taken out and killed so far. That had to count for something, right?

Sookie offered a little half-smile. "There's better folks than me to worry about in here. I've been having a rough week." Or a rough couple of years.

"I'm sorry," Liara said honestly. She sat down in front of Sookie - it seemed more comfortable. "Did something happen this week?"

... well, there was detention, Liara.

Sookie raised an eyebrow. "Well, one of my friends, who has gone off the deep end, routinely comes in to mentally torture me and my boyfriend. Plus the food sucks and everyone thinks too loud. So...I mean, with some Advil it'd all probably be fine."

At least her tone was still pleasant, despite the sarcasm.

"Oh. Would you like me to find you an Advil?" said Liara. The sarcasm whizzed merrily over her alien head.

... though it whizzed over it mostly because she was Liara, and not because asari didn't know sarcasm.

Sookie almost laughed. "I don't think they'll give us those in here, honey, but thanks for the offer," she said, genuinely. "Are you doing okay?"

"I am doing much better than I was," Liara admitted. "I haven't sung or exhausted myself in two days."

"I missed the singing," Sookie said, lightly. (For a given value of "missed," but "I was curled up and semi-catatonic when you were singing" didn't quite have that same conversational patter.) "And...yeah. Any day where you actually feel like makin' the effort to open your eyes is a good day, in my book."

"Have you been here long?" Liara wondered. She had seen the girl before, but they had never quite made conversation.

...Possibly the semi-catatonic thing hadn't helped.

"I think it's been close to two years," Sookie said, shrugging. "Hard to keep track of time, you know?"

"I suppose it is," Liara said tentatively. "I have only been here for a few weeks."

"What'd you get thrown in here for?" Sookie wondered. "She have something against blue people now?"

"I... may have thrown several of her men into a wall," Liara admitted. "To be fair, they were trying to grab me."

"Good for you," Sookie said, with a touch of admiration. "Why didn't you just throw her into a wall, too?"

"I am not yet a fully-trained biotic," Liara said. She fidgeted a little. "I ran out of energy. I think I spent a week begging everyone here for food to replace my reserves."
