Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

There were churros. Churros everywhere. Tony was having an amazing Cinco de Mayo. Could you tell?

He took a seat, checking out all the new people in case someone wanted to punch him there were any interesting ones.

It was Loki's turn to be the one who was knowledgeable about all the idiosyncrasies of the island. And so, he was going to use that to his advantage.

With Ikol perched on his shoulder, he stayed perched on a bench, keeping a wary eye on the roving minstrels. They boded ill for his enjoyment of this gather.

Was there a fourteen-year-old boy on the planet who would turn down free Mexican food? Because Alex was not him. He had a giant plate of nachos and was probably going to go back for seconds in a little bit. Aw yeah.

Kenzi had been trying to bribe the mariachi band into following Vice Principal Deadpool and playing "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" but apparently they didn't have a collective death-wish. Who knew?

So she was trying to throw taco chips into the brims of their hats.

By now her name tag said, "Grace Winchester."

Anna would not be eating or drinking, and she was kind of unsure about the fiestaing. She wasn't really the fiesta type. After greeting her little sibling, she tended more toward the edges of the gathering.

Of course, if anyone could sense auras or magic or the dead, she was pretty impossible to miss. Just follow the giant scary power cloud until you found the pale girl in the white dress.

Free food, music, the chance to socialize with her fellow students and meet some new kids and try to reassure them they weren't going crazy? What wasn't to love about today? Petra was nibbling on a burrito as she wandered around.

Stacey was here, checking out the boys.

And seeing whether there were any people she wanted to befriend.

But mainly smiling at any cute boy who caught her line of sight.

What.

Rilla had brought a blanket with her for Jims to sit on (though he was more interested in trying to eat a stick) and was sitting under a shady tree, nibbling on a churro and staring at the hats of the men in the band.

Could she pull one of those off? It might be a little too much...

Yep, Pinkie was here. Bouncing around like an overstimulated pink pony ping-pong ball, gasping anew at everything like she'd never been to a welcome picnic before.

It was a party, okay? This was what Pinkie lived for!

At first glance, it might look like Ben was attempting to build himself some kind of dwelling made entirely of enchiladas, but no. His plan was to eat them all.

Well, after he saw how high he could stack them.

He glanced up occasionally, hoping not to see any familiar faces.

Sia had either shown up on some sort of holiday or day of cultural significance, or this entire place was mad. She wasn't sure which, yet.

She looked calm, though, and was trying to get a feel for her surroundings. And possibly trying to see just how many other Force sensitives there were here.

Free food, actual sunlight, no Exchange thugs. Yeah, okay, Atton was going to keep his bitching about this place to a bare minimum - anything seemed like heaven compared to Nar Shaddaa.

The Jedi was going to be a problem, but he could deal with that.

He sat down at one of the picnic tables, got his pazaak cards out. He could play a game alongside his meal. Always helped to keep the mind practicing.

This would be Ender's penultimate newbie picnic. It felt strange to think of it that way, but also not: his own newbie picnic felt like it was decades ago.

He took his usual spot - not too far from the center of activity, but not in the middle of it anyway - and watched the new kids as they came in, classifying them in the back of his head.

Atton looked up to answer that question for what felt like the umpteenth time, then halted.

Wait.

"Okay, I'm pretty sure I've never seen anyone your species before," he said. "Well, not without drinking large amounts of juma juice, anyway."

"Sounds tasty," Pinkie decided. "I'm an Earth pony. You're a human, right? You look like a human, but I'd never met humans before last year, so I might be wrong."

"I'm human, good observation," Atton said. Maybe only a little sarcastic. "Ponies talk on Earth? That's not weird at all."

He should've read up on this planet before he came here. The offer had sounded too good to pass up.

Well, this didn't seem too bad, that was for sure. Although Ulrik was making a mental note to himself to acquire some up-time clothing as soon as possible. The doublet and breeches might've been perfectly sensible in 1636, but they made him stand out... 'like a sore thumb', he thought the expression went, here.

Of course.

And she'd said everypony.

For as weird as she found this, Sia had manners and had been raised among all different species, which meant that the staring was minimal. "I am," she said. "I take it to mean that you have been here a while."

That was okay. Pinkie was immune to sarcasm. "Ponies talk in Equestria! We're called Earth ponies 'cause we grow stuff and walk on the ground, not do magic or fly like unicorns or pegasuseseses. I don't know if ponies talk here, but everybody seems so surprised when I do, so I guess probably they don't. At least, not to humans. Which seems kinda rude, but what can you do?"

What Atton took from that was that apparently somewhere there were Force-sensitive pink ponies wandering around, and that made his head hurt.

"Maybe someone just needs to buy a pony a juma juice, get the whole conversation rolling," he said.

Hey. He was nothing if not someone who could roll with the punches.
