Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

Stacey was here, checking out the boys.

And seeing whether there were any people she wanted to befriend.

But mainly smiling at any cute boy who caught her line of sight.

What.

"You, uh, look like you're having fun," Frank offered as he happened to walk by Stacey.

What, a cute girl had smiled at him and he thought he was special.

"It's a welcome picnic," she said with a smile and a shrug. "There are new people to meet, so it's hard not to have fun. Hi. I'm Stacey."

"Frank," he returned, offering a hand. "You know, the theme might be kind of weird, but so far this school seems pretty neat. I mean, my old school sooo didn't have picnics for the start of every semester."

She shook his hand (for just a second too long, because hi, flirting was what she did), and said, "I know, right? It's just a really cool way to get to know everyone. And who doesn't want a party thrown for them when they first show up?"

Shy and antisocial people, Stacey.

Pfft. Frank had never heard of such people.

"I sure can't think of anyone," he admitted, savoring the long handshake and maybe managing some charming eye contact to go along with it. "Plus the food's surprisingly good, the weather's nice, and, you know, there's--" he blushed faintly right before delivering the line he'd planned in his head for just such an occasion-- "all these pretty girls."

Yeah, it would've sounded much smoother coming from someone who was actually, you know, smooth. Or if it had been a better line.

Stacey laughed anyway, because she tended to be pretty easy like that.

No, not like that.

...Sort of.

"You mean there are other pretty girls?"

Wow, Stacey. Wow.

Someone really should've thought through his totally crappy pick-up line before he said it! Oops.

"Um," said Frank. "A few? Or. Not that I've paid attention to? I mean, I'm talking to the prettiest one right now, so."

Fail. So much fail.

"I'm just messing with you," she assured him. "But thank you."

"No problem, Stacey," Frank said, trying to regain some balance in this conversation. "So, where are you from?"

"New York, but I live in Connecticut, too," she said. "What about you?"

"Hey, me too!" Frank said brightly. "I mean, about New York, not Connecticut. You're the first other New Yorker I've met here."

Strictly speaking, he was from upstate, which meant he and Stacey were about on equal levels of sophistication here.

"It seems like everyone here is from New York," she told him.

But they couldn't all have diabetes and she still have that over them.

"So far I've only met two kids from LA and a couple of people from other planets," Frank admitted. "Plus either a teacher or a hobo."

"...Teacher or a hobo?" she repeated.

"He was... sort of sleeping on a bench."

So yeah.

"I really hope I'm not in his class."

"Did you actually ask him if he's a teacher?"

Hopefully he didn't ask if he was a homeless person. New Yorkers were supposed to know better.

"Oh, he actually told me upfront," Frank explained. "And the dean did let him on the bus. So maybe he teaches something about blending in in a public place?"

Well... kinda?

"Maybe he was just tired."

Though now she wanted to see who this teacher was.

And ultimately crush like nobody's business.
