Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

It was Loki's turn to be the one who was knowledgeable about all the idiosyncrasies of the island. And so, he was going to use that to his advantage.

With Ikol perched on his shoulder, he stayed perched on a bench, keeping a wary eye on the roving minstrels. They boded ill for his enjoyment of this gather.

"Whoa," Frank said, blinking up at Ikol. "What kind of bird is that?" Wait, better question. "They let you have birds here?"

"He is a magpie," Loki replied, shrugging to cause Ikol to flutter up for a moment before resettling.

"Nice," Frank said approvingly. "He's really neat." He peered at Ikol from a couple different angles, because someone was maybe a little bit of a bird geek, then gave a sheepish grin and said, "I'm Frank, by the way. Sorry, I -- like birds."

"Loki," he replied, just watching the boy. Because he didn't do things like shake hands. "His name is Ikol."

Frank grinned. "I see what you did there," he said. "Nice." No, Frank, you totally didn't, but good try.

"Have you, uh, been here long?"

"I have been attending this school since the winter." A beat. "Which I suppose would put me in a position of superiority over you."

"That it would," Frank agreed easily enough. "This isn't where the hazing starts, is it? Because I'm sure we could work out a really nice bribe."

He was teasing. Sorry, Loki. You didn't really look that threatening, unfortunately.

"Luke! I am waiting to see which of our newest classmates will cry," he said with the same sort of cheer anyone else would have about, say, puppies.

"You really think they will?" Luke asked, not surprised by Loki's cheerfulness. "Most people seem excited on their first day. The only time I've seen a breakdown was when Percy tried to kill me his first picnic here."

Luke chuckled and shook his head. "Sadly, no, none of our fights have been filmed. Besides, that one was just a misunderstanding, he thought I was someone else."

He paused.

"Actually he thought I was me, but me from the future."

"Ah, I suppose that would be concerning," Loki replied. "I believe most fear me from the past will arrive here."

And this is why Luke was his favorite god on the island. Never mind that there were only three of them aside from Loki.

"I will be certain to have mine brother speak with you about my behaving here should he visit." Because that would totally convince him. Yup.
