The Library is Open - 12/8/05

Having cleared a lot of cataloging in the last few days, Methos finally retires to his office to open the package that came for him on Monday.

((AND IT EXPLODES IN A MASSIVE FIREBALL!!!!!!1

Actually, I can see Methos' reaction to that: pause. cough. carefully brush soot off his face with a Kleenex.))

((Oh, very funny, Adam.

If you didn't get the notif, I'd like to continue yesterday's conversation (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/432476.html?thread=20198748#t20198748), if you're free.))

Janet came in, noticed that no one was behind the Collections Desk, and presumed that Methos was in his lair office. Good. She could corner him there.

"Good morning," said Janet, opening the door without bothering to knock first and not reacting at all to noticing the package was open. She smiled. "I need a favor."

Janet laughed. "I could recommend some good laundry products," she said, not batting an eye. "Some of the Colorado Springs Refugees High School group need to go Christmas shopping. We're thinking Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Also, Liz has been staring at the Art Institute's webpage for the past week now. We were thinking it would be easiest for us to arrange a cultural field trip and--" Janet shrugged and did her absolute best to look innocent. "--we need a faculty sponsor. I figured since you have so many significant others people to buy gifts for, you'd be the most easily talked into it best choice."

Re: Shall we note that this is in Methos' office and thus not overhearable?

Janet gave Methos a look. "Not a persuasive argument in the least," she said.

"First, because the library assistants are also invited, and you want to make sure we don't get in trouble off school grounds. Second, because you can see the Field's window display omg, they're changing the name, rage!, and third, because we're all very responsible, capable individuals who won't cause you any trouble at all. If you believe that, I've got some wonderful land in a place called Chulak to sell you. Also, it would actually be very wrong to ask Daniel to do it."

Janet held up a brochure. "Besides, I've never been to the Art Institute. See? Cultural experience. I'll even be nice and say please."

"You okay?" asked Janet. "Feeling all right?" They really were responsible, capable individuals. They just attracted trouble like a magnet sometimes.

"And the fact that Daniel's dating a student is why he should never sponsor a school event that I go on," said Janet. She gave him another look. "It would be highly improper."

Janet smiled at him. "Thank you." She pulled a folded piece of paper out of her pocket and handed it to Methos. "It's just a few people. The Colorado folks and the library assistants."

Unfortunately, Janet hadn't realized that her guest list had gotten mixed up with the list of people who had books on hold for them. Guess which list was given to Methos in a comedically perfect--yet highly improbable--incident?

Angela enters the library after journalism class, bearing a carafe of coffee.

Noticing Dr. Pierson and Janet talking in the office, she takes a seat behind the collections desk and pulls out a notebook. She means to work on her poetry homework, but really she's doodling.

Janet waves to Angela from the office. "Out in a few," she mouths.

Angela smiles and nods distractedly in Janet's direction, then goes back to her notebook.

Ivanova walks into the unfamiliar territory of the library and heads towards the circulation desk. She'd heard tales about the library. More specifically, the library staff. Still, only tales.

"Hello?" she says uncertainly.

[personal profile] janet_fraiser 2005-12-08 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey," said Janet. "You can't possibly be a new student this late in the term. Which means you're doing last-minute research for a class project, aren't you?"

[identity profile] suzotchka.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"None of the above, actually," Ivanova replies. "I burned through all the reading material on my ship. I'm down to technical manuals. In Minbari. I'm not that desperate, yet."

[personal profile] janet_fraiser 2005-12-08 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds intensely boring," said Janet sympathetically. "Would you like a library card application?"

[identity profile] suzotchka.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"It is," Ivanova nodded firmly. "And yes, please. Very much."
janet_fraiser: (Default)

[personal profile] janet_fraiser 2005-12-08 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"What do you like to read?" asked Janet. "And here you go." She handed over an application. "Blue or black ink only."

She gave the student a once-over. "You're not one of the five million Chosen Ones at this school, right? Because we don't allow anyone to put that on their application."

[identity profile] suzotchka.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Chosen One? Nope, don't believe so. Unless Zathras suddenly tells me I'm the One, too," she says as she rummages in her bag for a pen, extracting one with a small cry of triumph and beginning to fill it out. "I'll read anything in English or Russian that'll stand still for long enough," she says in response to the girl's question. "But I'm really a fan of cheesy romance. Sad, I know." She hands back the finished application. "I'm Ivanova, by the way."
janet_fraiser: (Default)

[personal profile] janet_fraiser 2005-12-08 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Janet Fraiser," said Janet. "Nice to meet you." She took the application. "Romances are way in the back corner. I'm not sure where the Russian books are. Anything dangerous is in Special Collections, and you need a teacher's note to get to it." She grinned at Ivanova. "This won't take long to get ready."

[identity profile] suzotchka.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks, I'll have a look around." She pauses. "I've heard about Special Collections. I doubt there's anything in there I'd want that badly." She shoulders her backpack. "I'll go poke around, then. Be right back." With that, she disappears into the stacks.

Marty takes his usual table at the library and studies his little heart out.

Finals you know.

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
At some point, too lazy to even get up to talk to him, Parker sails a paper airplane across the room.

Am inviting in email much of Colorado crowd, John & Aeryn, your girlfriend, Bridge, Xander Harris, Professor Tick, Zero, Rory & Logan though I doubt they'll come, Wings, and Cam and Lee and Vala Mal Doran to Investigator's Meeting. Should I add Piper and Veronica Mars to email?

[identity profile] oatmanspatient.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Marty reads the e-mail. Nods and writes back.

Do it. Check to see if you can get some of that sooper sekrit e-mail encryption

Instead of a paper airplane he wads it up into a little ball and throws it back, bouncing it off Parker's head.

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker grabs it, glares at Marty half-heartedly, reads it, nods, and rolls her eyes.

The next spitball merely says:

Encryption? Duh, Blank. Eat this note.

[identity profile] oatmanspatient.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Marty looks at her like she was nuts and throws the wad back (after donning plastic gloves)

I'm not eating your spitwad. You eat it!

Rory slinked in, looking depressed.

Anyone who approached her might be able to make out the word, "Pageant," before being ignored.

Parker had her head down while reading Spanish culture books for notes on tango. And flamenco.

That Antonio Banderas was in some of these pictures was a complete coincidence.
