The Library is Open - 12/8/05

Having cleared a lot of cataloging in the last few days, Methos finally retires to his office to open the package that came for him on Monday.

Ivanova walks into the unfamiliar territory of the library and heads towards the circulation desk. She'd heard tales about the library. More specifically, the library staff. Still, only tales.

"Hello?" she says uncertainly.

"Hey," said Janet. "You can't possibly be a new student this late in the term. Which means you're doing last-minute research for a class project, aren't you?"

"None of the above, actually," Ivanova replies. "I burned through all the reading material on my ship. I'm down to technical manuals. In Minbari. I'm not that desperate, yet."

"Sounds intensely boring," said Janet sympathetically. "Would you like a library card application?"

"It is," Ivanova nodded firmly. "And yes, please. Very much."

"What do you like to read?" asked Janet. "And here you go." She handed over an application. "Blue or black ink only."

She gave the student a once-over. "You're not one of the five million Chosen Ones at this school, right? Because we don't allow anyone to put that on their application."

"Chosen One? Nope, don't believe so. Unless Zathras suddenly tells me I'm the One, too," she says as she rummages in her bag for a pen, extracting one with a small cry of triumph and beginning to fill it out. "I'll read anything in English or Russian that'll stand still for long enough," she says in response to the girl's question. "But I'm really a fan of cheesy romance. Sad, I know." She hands back the finished application. "I'm Ivanova, by the way."

"Janet Fraiser," said Janet. "Nice to meet you." She took the application. "Romances are way in the back corner. I'm not sure where the Russian books are. Anything dangerous is in Special Collections, and you need a teacher's note to get to it." She grinned at Ivanova. "This won't take long to get ready."

"Thanks, I'll have a look around." She pauses. "I've heard about Special Collections. I doubt there's anything in there I'd want that badly." She shoulders her backpack. "I'll go poke around, then. Be right back." With that, she disappears into the stacks.
