The Library is Open - 11/17

Methos is bemusedly staring at his new pet, a salamander -- the kind that lives in fire. He managed to find a glass terranium that can withstand high heat and the salamander is happily ensconced in it. A sign in front of the terranium announces, "Name the Salamander!" and slips of paper, pens and a drop box are immediately to one side.

[Methos bites his lip to avoid saying out loud among impressionable teenagers what he's thinking, but his eyes are dancing.] I would be delighted by a double feature. My apartment or the TARDIS?

"We need more staff," says Janet, dropping her backpack behind the desk. "If I get delayed by a test, we're not open until you drag your oft-leered at sorry ass out of bed, across town, and into the library. Which is usually late."

"I am not late. Library rules say the library opens whenever we want it to. Ergo, it is impossible to be late." Methos looks highly offended. No, really, he does.

"Fine then," says Janet, laughing at him. "You're lazy. And it's not that I care if anyone complains--though they could try. It would be pretty funny. It's that I don't want to be the only one left standing just before Parents Weekend. We don't have enough back-up in case the rest of us aren't feeling well."

She handed him a sheet of paper and a marker. "Go stick up a sign. We'll make everyone bribe us with coffee interview with us for the job. If they can handle the staff, they can sure as hell handle the library patrons."

"Explain to me how you end up being the one in charge and I end up sticking signs up?" Methos asks plaintively.

"Because you're incredibly apathetic and I'm only slightly less so?" says Janet, grinning at him. "Or because my penchant for organization and giving orders has overtaken your penchant for hiding out in the stacks and making out with your girlfriend and/or boyfriend. I'm not really sure which."

"Oh?" Methos says mildly. "I wish I had gone with him, but I had to stay home and throw all the rotten food out of my kitchen. Again. I have to stop disappearing for a week on end. It's very bad for housekeeping."
