Basic Strategy, Monday, 10/03

"Welcome to class," Tyrion said, once they'd gathered in the usual classroom. "I hope you enjoyed seeing your families or guardians, if they came; a few of them spoke with me. I promise I said nothing incriminating."

"This is a fairly easy week -- for me, not for you. I just have to read the names on this piece of paper, then you're to take care of the rest of it. I drew names at random to pair you up. Each pair is to spend some time together over the course of the week discussing something each of you might teach the other, and perhaps beginning some instruction in it. I don't especially care what the skill is, but please, nothing illegal, particularly immoral, or likely to get you killed."

He was betting on the last element being the hardest.

"You can either spend today as a discussion session, or leave with your partner to go work on whatever you're teaching each other. Next week, we'll discuss what we learned."

And with that, he took out the sheet and began to read.

Toby glanced over at Dolf when their names were called. He'd never talked to the other boy, so really only knew him from what he'd done in class. And as far as coming up with a skill- well, he didn't even know where to start with that.

Toby nodded. "This is hard," he admitted. "I've never really taught anyone before." Plus the pretty-much-defining skill he had was one that couldn't be taught.

Lex was definitely in a better mood than he'd been the rest of the weekend as he looked around for Faramir. Lionel being safely back in Metropolis had a lot to do with it.

Lex shrugged. "He didn't specify it had to be useful," he pointed out. "We can always just go with something fun."

Bruce was fairly happy with this pairing. He figured Tony actually could teach him a few things. Things that could be useful in the future. Oh yes. The future.

Kate offered a return smirk. "I think we are." Tyrion hadn't said otherwise, so she was taking that as leave to take off.

Kenzi followed her out, fingers trailing along the wall, and said idly, "Well. Do you know lockpicking already? That's not entirely illegal. It helps you get back into your own place. And car. Just in case you lose your keys."

When his name was called out, Simon looked up and then around himself. He didn't remember which one of the girls was Lucrezia, no.

The process of elimination and some simple guesswork led Lucrezia to the dark-haired boy's side.

"Are you Simon?" she asked.

Simon nodded with a very brief twitch of a smile. "Yes. And you're... Lucrezia?"

He hoped he wasn't butchering her name too badly. (He wasn't.)

Considering her last few weeks, Susan was at a bit of a loss as to what she could teach someone else. It felt like she needed most of the teaching these days, much as that annoyed her.

Maybe he could stand to learn algebra?

Jason's skills were mostly physical - not dirty - so he wasn't sure what he could teach anyone either. "Um, hey," he said, pretty sure he had the right girl. "Susan, right? This seems like kind of a weird assignment."

Bart looked around at the other people in the room. He recognized a couple of them. He even waved at his roommate as he looked around. But he didn't know who this Caroline person was.

Thinking fast (how else does he think?), Bart ripped out a piece of paper from his notebook and scrawled "Hi, I'm Bart" on it and held it up as a sign.

Caroline sighed the sigh of someone who so didn't want anything to do with a paired project before she took a deep, calming breath and reminded herself how to smile.

Bart was easy enough to find, especially with the paper, and she tilted her head in amusement at him. "Hi, I'm Caroline. So what's your skill, Bart?"
