Basic Strategy, Monday, 10/03

"Welcome to class," Tyrion said, once they'd gathered in the usual classroom. "I hope you enjoyed seeing your families or guardians, if they came; a few of them spoke with me. I promise I said nothing incriminating."

"This is a fairly easy week -- for me, not for you. I just have to read the names on this piece of paper, then you're to take care of the rest of it. I drew names at random to pair you up. Each pair is to spend some time together over the course of the week discussing something each of you might teach the other, and perhaps beginning some instruction in it. I don't especially care what the skill is, but please, nothing illegal, particularly immoral, or likely to get you killed."

He was betting on the last element being the hardest.

"You can either spend today as a discussion session, or leave with your partner to go work on whatever you're teaching each other. Next week, we'll discuss what we learned."

And with that, he took out the sheet and began to read.

Lex shrugged. "He didn't specify it had to be useful," he pointed out. "We can always just go with something fun."

Useful things could be fun, but then perhaps Faramir was merely special.

"And what sort of thing do you find fun?" he wondered.

Lex didn't disagree in principle, but he desperately needed some frivolity after the weekend. "I like comics."

Faramir had been in the library enough to know even what comics were and he nodded, considering it. Even despite the literature classes, he didn't think he could instruct anyone on storytelling, that was Gabrielle's strength, not his.

"I could teach you a few of the legends from my world," Faramir mused. "Though it isn't much of a skill." He paused. "Unless it counts to be able to entertain someone around the campfire."

Or to use them as metaphors for how you weren't measuring up to your father's standards. "I'd say it does."

There were rather many about Elves messing up and disappointing everyone around them.

Faramir smiled, pleased as it seemed at least pleasant to teach. "As for myself, I would not mind learning something involving a technology of this world. It does not matter which, but they are the hardest to learn."

Lex grinned. Any excuse for a geek to play with shiny objects. "I'm pretty sure we can handle that."

"That went easier than I would have thought," Faramir admitted with a laugh.
