Basic Strategy, Monday, 10/03

"Welcome to class," Tyrion said, once they'd gathered in the usual classroom. "I hope you enjoyed seeing your families or guardians, if they came; a few of them spoke with me. I promise I said nothing incriminating."

"This is a fairly easy week -- for me, not for you. I just have to read the names on this piece of paper, then you're to take care of the rest of it. I drew names at random to pair you up. Each pair is to spend some time together over the course of the week discussing something each of you might teach the other, and perhaps beginning some instruction in it. I don't especially care what the skill is, but please, nothing illegal, particularly immoral, or likely to get you killed."

He was betting on the last element being the hardest.

"You can either spend today as a discussion session, or leave with your partner to go work on whatever you're teaching each other. Next week, we'll discuss what we learned."

And with that, he took out the sheet and began to read.

"Well, that's good," Dolf said, after giving it a moment's thought, "Since teaching people things is a big part of what I do. Or have done," he added.

"Really?" Toby looked- not surprised, exactly, but curious at that. "I'm- still not sure what it is I can offer as far as a skill, though," he continued. "I mean, maybe how to go unnoticed in a crowd. Or dress for winter," he shrugged.

"I spent time in the Middle Ages," Dolf explained. "Helping some kids. Teaching's important." He shrugged. "And everyone usually has something to teach. I don't know how to do stealth like that."

"The Middle Ages?" Toby asked. "But you're not- from then?" it was maybe a little off topic, but it was still related, if that's where he'd learned about teaching people stuff.

"I'm from 2006. The Netherlands," Dolf said, with a smile that wasn't quite apologetic, but certainly... something. "I... got stuck in the past for a few months. It's a very long story."

Not that he'd mind telling it, but that was up to Toby.

"I went to Ottawa, once, during the Tulip Festival," Toby offered. Not that the tulip part of the trip had been all that exciting to a ten year old. "I don't mind long stories, if they're interesting. And I think time travel counts as interesting."

Dolf blew out a breath. "Have you ever heard of the Children's Crusade?" he asked.
