Try Not To Die!!!! [Tuesday, August 16]

Much like last week, it was only Tahiri who waited at the causeway for the students to show up this week.

"It seems Master Skywalker is still occupied this week," she told everyone once they'd assembled, sparing a frown for the students who hadn't returned yet, either. "Which is a shame, since this is the last class and I'm sure he would have enjoyed putting you all through something especially difficult."

Although given the town across the causeway, how difficult could it possibly be? Don't answer that.

"Anyway, it's my understanding that this particular time period on Earth is notable for its cultural, er . . . quirks," Tahiri continued. "Which is what you'll all be dealing with today, so have fun, possibly learn something, and try not to die."

The sweeping-arm gesture she made as she stepped away from the clue box wasn't nearly as dramatic as Anakin's might have been, but she wasn't even going to try to match that anyway.

Given that Cara didn't exactly know how to drive, let's all be glad she was only on a go-kart.

Thanks to good reflexes she managed not to actually hit anything.

The problem wasn't Seifer finding the signs, or memorizing him. The problem was the go-carts were fun and he spent more time playing around in the cart than doing what he was supposed to.

Eventually, he came in and got his clue.

Okay, memorization was something that was way more up Jim's alley than, say, trying to spot out-of-place things among creepy hula girl dolls.

And they gave him a go-kart to do it with?

The propulsion system was primitive, but there was a sort of rush to racing so close to the ground that definitely appealed to Jim, so he sped through at an almost ridiculous pace, slowing down whenever he spotted something that looked like a sign along the way. Years of stunting on his surfer had given him a keen enough eye to spot that sort of thing as he went.

Elle managed it pretty well -- up to the reciting everything back to the guy. She tripped over her tongue half a dozen times, mentally cursed herself out, but finally managed to get her next clue.

Today sucked already.

Mercy didn't have much trouble with the go-carts, but the lack of color was really weird. It distracted her enough that it took her some extra time to get the slogans right.

Reading and reciting plus driving when he was already cursed? This Road Block was out to get Nico.

Sorry if it got too cold for anyone in his proximity.

It took all of Jason's instincts not to blow past the signs quickly just to get past them, but he managed to memorize them on the first try, thankfully.

. . . yeah, Steph had a little too much fun with the go-kart. She got the signs memorized on the first pass, because compared to some of the memory drills Bruce put her through it was a piece of cake, but . . .

GO-KART.

So she took an extra spin around to enjoy it. If the object of the class was trying not to die, she didn't have to come in first to achieve that -- why not have a little fun while she was at it?

Hank was a driver! Thanks to Professor Bond's class, he could DRIVE now!

Trying to read and remember the signs would have been near-impossible for him, though, so he did the next best thing and yanked the signs out of the ground as he passed. If everyone behind him had to go a little farther to get to the other sets of signs? He didn't mean to do that, and he was sorry.

Annie had thought she'd be good at this, she really did. As it turned out, she was having trouble operating the go-kart while keeping an eye out for the signs, and by the time the darn thing stalled out on her, she was running behind.

She did manage to do it, though! Just... later.

Seifer didn't care where he came in, this class had actually been fun.

When Jim checked in and didn't see over a dozen people ahead of him, he couldn't help but grin.

"I'm not seventeenth today?"

He had to make himself one of those go-karts. It wasn't a surfer, but it was still pretty fun.

Hey, so long as he beat Jason, Nico was happy with his time. Especially after the torture of the first task.
