Try Not To Die!!!! [Tuesday, August 16]

Much like last week, it was only Tahiri who waited at the causeway for the students to show up this week.

"It seems Master Skywalker is still occupied this week," she told everyone once they'd assembled, sparing a frown for the students who hadn't returned yet, either. "Which is a shame, since this is the last class and I'm sure he would have enjoyed putting you all through something especially difficult."

Although given the town across the causeway, how difficult could it possibly be? Don't answer that.

"Anyway, it's my understanding that this particular time period on Earth is notable for its cultural, er . . . quirks," Tahiri continued. "Which is what you'll all be dealing with today, so have fun, possibly learn something, and try not to die."

The sweeping-arm gesture she made as she stepped away from the clue box wasn't nearly as dramatic as Anakin's might have been, but she wasn't even going to try to match that anyway.

Seifer went for the hula hoops. He'd 'dated' one too many waitresses to try serving drinks.

Really, hula hoops were torture devices, but eventually, he got it.

Now this Nico thought he could manage and he set to work getting that thing to spin as fast as possible. It was almost fun.

Almost. He was still annoyed from the last task.

Jason went for the hula hoops, figuring that he'd be good at it. It took a while for him to get the right motion, but then he was able to get it going fast. It was almost kind of fun, actually.

Annie was running behind, so she picked the thing she thought would be the easiest. Especially since she'd never been on roller skates before.

The argument she got into with the promoter about whether that was 24 or 25 took up a big chunk of time, too.

Hank got the hoop going without a problem, and had the time of his life with it.

"Look at me!!! I'm a hula monster!!!"

Unfortunately, the movement of his hips was awfully... suggestive. Far more so than it needed to be. And the expression on his face -- somewhere between intense concentration and ecstasy -- wasn't helping, either. The promoter shoved the clue at him and shooed him out of the park before any of the natives of Pleasantville could get any ideas.

Cara had to start over a great many times, not because she had any especial trouble keeping her balance once she got started, but she mysteriously kept 'accidentally' spilling milkshakes on obnoxious men.

Busy diner. Just like home. Jim normally wouldn't have opted to do the task that so closely resembled his chores back at the Benbow, but they went and sold him with a promise of wheels.

Not quite the wheels he had been expecting, but once he figured out how to stand up on them (which took a few minutes, granted), he was skating around and serving milkshakes like he'd been doing it all his life.

Which he had.

Elle went for the wheels.

This might have been a mistake, as she couldn't quite manage to control herself.

But at least she didn't spill anything, even if she did wheel out of control a few times.

Rollerskates? Drat. She'd just heard the waitressing part. It definitely took her a bit to get used to them, but once she did it was a great deal of fun. In fact she stayd a bit longer to help out with the rush before heading off to find Tahiri.

This was not going to end well, was it?

Actually it didn't turn out as badly as it might have; Stephanie was pretty agile.

Not, however, completely light on her feet, though, so a few milkshakes took the brunt of her overly-fancy attempts. Sorry, milkshakes.
