Try Not To Die!!!! [Tuesday, August 16]

Much like last week, it was only Tahiri who waited at the causeway for the students to show up this week.

"It seems Master Skywalker is still occupied this week," she told everyone once they'd assembled, sparing a frown for the students who hadn't returned yet, either. "Which is a shame, since this is the last class and I'm sure he would have enjoyed putting you all through something especially difficult."

Although given the town across the causeway, how difficult could it possibly be? Don't answer that.

"Anyway, it's my understanding that this particular time period on Earth is notable for its cultural, er . . . quirks," Tahiri continued. "Which is what you'll all be dealing with today, so have fun, possibly learn something, and try not to die."

The sweeping-arm gesture she made as she stepped away from the clue box wasn't nearly as dramatic as Anakin's might have been, but she wasn't even going to try to match that anyway.

How'd you do this week, kids?

Cara looked terribly happy, really she did.

"I know," Tahiri told Cara as if to try and make up for most of the class already being present, "this place is really weird. You're thirteenth today."

Seifer didn't care where he came in, this class had actually been fun.

"You seem to enjoy this class so much," Tahiri couldn't help remarking to Seifer. "I think some people would say that's a good attitude to have." Or possibly disturbing depending on how you looked at it, what with some of the bizarre tasks students had to undertake, but . . . point of view.

A pause, then: "You're ninth today."

"If the missions back home had been this interesting, maybe I would have passed on the first try."

Instead of trying to make them interesting and getting a failing grade.

When Jim checked in and didn't see over a dozen people ahead of him, he couldn't help but grin.

"I'm not seventeenth today?"

He had to make himself one of those go-karts. It wasn't a surfer, but it was still pretty fun.

"Not seventeenth, since I don't even think we have seventeen people present today," Tahiri answered. "Third, actually. That's an improvement, right?"

"A definite improvement," Jim replied, grinning a little. Normally he wouldn't be so happy with third, but after his poor showing last week, he certainly couldn't complain about it, either. "This week was way easier than some of the other ones have been."

"So, how badly did I suck?" was all Elle said.

"Well, you're fourteenth --" which by today's class roster meant she was last, but Tahiri wasn't pointing that out -- "but I don't know why anyone thought it was a good idea to make roller skates a part of their food serving experience either, so . . ."

She shrugged. "I'm sorry?"

So not Anakin.

Mercy was all smiles when she came in.

"Had fun?" Tahiri asked; it was hard not to notice the smiles. "You're tenth today, Mercy."

"I did," Mercy said, still grinning. "Waitressing on roller skates was a blast."

Hey, so long as he beat Jason, Nico was happy with his time. Especially after the torture of the first task.

"Hi, Nico; you're sixth today," Tahiri told him.

"Thanks," Nico said, smirking a little because Jay was nowhere to be seen.

Total win.

When Jason made it to the check in and spotted Nico, all he could do was sigh. "You suck," he said, although there was only a little annoyance behind his words.

"True," Nico agreed, walking over to give Jason a sharp clap on the back. "But think of it this way. I barely beat you. Practically a tie...if I'd taken a nap walking over here." He probably should not tease Jason right now.

Oh, this was not going to be good, Annie could see that when she got there. She was even wincing as she got to Tahiri, waiting to hear the bad news.

"Hi, Annie," Tahiri said, face scrunched up a bit in sympathy. "You're twelfth today."

If you left out the part where there were only fourteen people instead of nineteen today it didn't sound that bad . . .

Annie looked hopeful. And maybe a tiny bit pathetic. "But not last?"

Hank jumped in front of Tahiri triumphantly, and then looked around in confusion. "Hey, where's everybody else?"

Tahiri couldn't help laughing. "Not here yet, since you're the first one back. Congratulations."

"Oh, SWEET!!!!"

Hank started jumping around. "Oh, yeah! Oh, yeah! Go Hankster! It's your birthday!!!"
