Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"Thank you," she said sweetly, smiling back up at him. "Too bad you look all wet or I'd have given you a hug. This rain is cramping my style, even if I totally refused to let it define my outfit." The six extra inches of height the shoes provided were required, dammit.

The six extra inches were kind of nice and he slid his arm around her waist to see exactly what the benefits were. "You're afraid of a little water?"

She was immediately making a face and trying to lean away from his wet chest. "Oh, please don't ruin my outfit! I carried an umbrella and then stayed under the tent to keep dry, you know."

"It's just be wet and then it'd dry," he argued, trying to tug her back.

"The one time you wear clothes and it has to rain," she grumbled, leaning in to give him a light hug. It was clear she was still trying to keep her clothes from sucking up a lot of moisture from his. "Huh, you just like, stood out in it to get this wet, didn't you?"

"It was cool," he was just going to tighten his arms around her and pull her a little closer.

"You're so weird," Caroline sighed, giving in to his squishing her till her dress and jacket got all wet. He was so lucky she liked him.

"You like me weird," he declared, rubbing a hand down her back. "And I like how tall you are right now."

"Ha! Bow down to my awesome shoes," she said, kicking up a heel so he could see them behind her. "Aren't they adorable?"

He laughed and leaned against her so he could glance down at her shoes. Okay, he was mostly glancing down at her legs and the shoes were a little bit scary. Luckily, he knew better than to say that. Besides, it was kind of awesome how tall she was.

"Very adorable," he nodded. "You're adorable."

Yeah, her dress wouldn't pass normal high school dress codes with regards to length, but she thought it did an excellent job showing off her best assets.

"I'm wet and adorable now," she told him, pulling back just enough to see the discoloration over the front of her jacket.

"It's not that bad," he laughed and looked a little sheepish as he took in the wet. "It's not my fault it's raining and no one bothered to talk me out of my shirt."

"Oh please, like anyone wanted you out of it once it was all plastered to your chest," she scoffed, giving his chest a little smack as she pulled back, grabbing for his hand. "It's way hotter like that. The wet t-shirt contest effect. Come sit with me."

"Huh. It is?" he asked as he let her tug him along. "So did you have fun?"

"Yeah, it's nice to hang out with people I only ever seem to see here," she shrugged, pulling him past the dessert table so she could grab a cookie on her way to an empty table. "It's weird. Did you see the room posting?"

Hey, he was grabbing a cookie too then. Make the two. "Nope, haven't really bothered looking at any of those. Why?"

Maybe he should start, so he wouldn't get freaked out again if someone he knew showed up.

"You should seriously start checking it out." She eyed him, thinking he'd probably actually like this, but they'd made it to a table and she pulled out a chair for him. "But first sit, let's build the anticipation a little."

He raised an eyebrow, wondering when she started being courteous to him, but he sat down nonetheless. Obviously something was bothering her. "Did someone you know show up?"

"Oh, God no, though yes, I was totally checking after all the things I've heard," she admitted, climbing onto his lap and crossing her legs.

"It seems I got moved to the second floor. I so am betting the squirrels heard me whining about my closet so now I get to move all my stuff." Because if they liked her, they would've made Nathan move.

His hand ended up hovering over her knee as he got distracted by the news. "You're switching rooms?" The corner of his mouth was tugging up a little, but he fought it as he finally put his hand on her knee. "Who are you rooming with then?"

"I'm not sure, maybe no one." Caroline was watching, almost waiting for him to get excited. "It's weird, right? Like, I just packed up that box to send to my mom."

"Good weird?" he asked, his thumb rubbing the inside of her knee. He wanted to get excited, but maybe she hated the idea.

"I can't decide," she admitted, munching on her cookie thoughtfully. "Really, it's a good thing. It stops all the awkward with Nathan, right? Plus I'm back to the doubled closet space like when he died. What do you think?"

He leaned forward, nuzzling her cheek so she couldn't see his grin. "I think it's awesome," he murmured.

Look, he'd liked the set up of the cabins and before when Nathan had been gone. "No getting high just being inside your room."

She'd figured he'd like it so long as she wasn't paired with some other guy. "Yeah. The smoke was annoying when I wasn't trying to bum one," she agreed with a sigh. "Not the weed. I don't dig the stoner thing. But I will miss knowing that in desperate times there was always booze I could hijack just a few feet away."
