Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

With all the rain the island had seen during the week, everyone had been hoping for a sudden turn to nice weather for the welcome picnic. But as the crew from the school started to set up for the picnic, the sky got darker and darker, and by the time everything was ready, it had started to steadily rain. As tempting as it was to move everything inside, there just wasn't anywhere in the school for so many people to gather at once, and since it was still comfortably warm outside, extra measures were taken to ensure that the picnic could go on as scheduled. Tents were set up to cover the information tables, the food, and most of the tables and chairs, and umbrellas had been gathered, ready for use by anyone who wanted more personal protection against the weather. It didn't look like the rain would be letting up any time soon.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Well, all Wesley knew was that he had someone showing up, and everyone else seemed to have a partner already, so...

"Er, hello," he said. "It's, ah... possible that I'm meant to be your big sibling? My name is Wesley Wyndam-Pryce."

Kenzi blinked at him, and restrained the urge to stare. "That's your real name?" Not confirming anything, yet. "Seriously?"

She didn't think she'd ever met anyone who'd admit to having a name like that, was all. That either took serious cojones or serious obliviousness. Kenzi-Astra said, "So, are you my parole officer here, or what? If I were Kenzi. Which I'm not admitting to. Yet."

Jack had a sign for Miley Stewart with her name on it. It even had glitter! Yeah he was trying to make a good first impression. The corner was droopy though from being chewed on by a puppy.

He stood up on a chair and showed off his sign to everyone, waiting for his sibling to show...or the sign to melt in the rain.

Yes! Glitter and a sign with her name on it! This school couldn't possibly be bad if it had cute boys with glittery signs for her.

Miley marched right up to the guy with the sign and smiled. "Hey, I'm Miley Stewart. Are you Jack?"

"Thanks!" Miley said, accepting the sign. This was going right up on her bulletin board.

"So, what, you're my new big brother?" she asked, getting down to business in her typical friendly way. "Because my actual big brother? Kind of a failure at it."

"New big brother, guide to the wonderful world of Fandom and all around person you can come to if the place starts freaking you out. A few warnings," he said, launching into a prepared spiel, "everything here is weird, you're not going crazy, I have an actual little brother named Bobby who will probably decide to drop in on you at some point and I'm in room 308 if you need to find me. How does your actual big brother fail?"

Jeremy had an umbrella of his own. A Gucci one. He also had a nametag, resigned as he was to the fate that no one would recognize him without one, and he had a smile on his face.

He was scanning the crowds for a Cassel, and wondering how that was supposed to be pronounced.

Cassel wasn't exactly thrilled with having another big sibling considering the two he already had made his life miserable, but he supposed that this Jeremy guy couldn't possibly be worse than Phillip and Barron.

He managed to find Jeremy in the crowd, but was displeased to see that he was gloveless. He didn't know why he was surprised; he seemed to be the only person that managed to wear a pair here.

"You must be Jeremy," Cassel said, automatically noting the expensive umbrella and marking the guy down as having money. "I'm Cassel."

No, he didn't offer his hand in greeting.

"Hey," Jeremy grinned at him. "That's right, Jeremy Darling, at your service. Welcome to Fandom, Cassel."

Now that he knew how it was pronounced, he was comfortable saying it. And he did offer the other boy his hand. It was only polite!

Jeremy's eyebrows twitched when his hand got ignored, but lowered it all the same. Not everyone had had the same kinds of manners drilled into them as he had (even if he was kind of random about remembering to act according to them) and he was cool with that.

"Basically, yeah," he replied, tempering his grin more into a smile. "And also because this place is... It takes a little getting used to."

Shortly after getting back to town, Bruce discovered it was two months earlier than he expected it to be. Then he realized that they were in the middle of some kind of ancient civilization he hadn't placed yet, but it certainly wasn't Egypt. And then he realized that he was in line to be a big sibling. At this point, he was ready for "Ryan Clark" to be a Frankenstein's monster, just to finish off Fandom's attempts to throw him off his game.

THat was his line in the sand. Frankenstein's monster or better and he'd be able to brush everything else off. Worse than a Frankenstein's monster and he was willing to give the island this round.

Your move, Ryan Clark.

No, Ryan wasn't a Frankenstein monster. But she certainly wasn't feeling her best after the such a long journey just to get to the island. The rain wasn't helping, either, since it was making her red hair even frizzier than usual.

"Are you the person I'm supposed to be looking for?" she asked Bruce. She was wearing her own nametag, but wouldn't stick to her jacket.

"I think I am," Bruce said, glancing at the non-sticky tag. Neither a Frankenstein's monster nor a guy. Bruce's first two guesses were out the window, but he didn't let it show. "Bruce Wayne. Pleased to meet you."

"Nice to meet you, too. I'm Ryan. I'd make some joke about how my parents were expecting a boy, but I used it too many time already today," said Ryan. "Is the weather always like this? It's not what I was expecting. It kind of feels like being back in the rain forest."

"Not usually, no, but I've been away for a couple months," Bruce said. Weather patterns around here could change dramatically several times in a couple months. "You came from the rain forest?"

Annie wasn't new, but she was wearing the nametag to make it easier for her little... ooh, brother! to spot her if she didn't spot him first. She'd just be looking through the sea of people, checking out nametags and occastionally calling, "Bart?"

There was a scarlet blur zipping in and out from amidst the mass of people. Occasionally, a mop of red hair stopped moving and looked around. When his name was called, however, the blurring mass of big hair and feet homed in on Annie and stopped right in in front of her, wobbling a bit at the abrupt stop.

He waved, a big stupid grin on his face. "HiyoumustbeAnnieI'mBartbutyouprobablyalreadyknowthatsinceyouweresayingmynameandI'mtalkingreallyfastagainaren'tI?"

He took a deep breath and counted to a hundred on the exhale. "Hi. I guess you're Annie, huh? I'm Bart." He held out his hand and tried his best too look taller. It wasn't working.

Well, that was a greeting Annie hadn't seen in... oh, ever. Eyes a little wide, she shook his hand and said, "Yep, that would be me! Annie. Hi. Welcome to Fandom!"
