BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

Kate had slept... about as well as you could expect for someone who'd spent the past ten hours on what was best described as a speeding land-raft, and looked like it. Ley travel was not exactly luxurious.

Which is really to say, 'she looked cranky'.

Or she did, until she dumped her bag on the ground, and stared out at the airplanes, when her irritation subsided a little in favor of perplexed, and a murmured, "What the--"

For a long moment, Kate kept her eyes on the planes, before marshaling herself into a less puzzled, more unflappable image.

"Huh?" she glanced across at the other girl. "Oh. Yeah," she nodded. Finding this weird, very much yes, but she reminded herself sternly that she'd seen far freakier things. "Just only ever seen them old wrecks, is all."

Angelica followed her gaze and frowned in confusion. "The airplanes?" she said. "I don't understand."

Kate shook her head, "Nothing," but her eyes flicked back to the planes one last time before she focused on this other girl.

"Just--" No, she'd already come off as nuts to one person, way to draw attention to yourself, Kate. "Nothing. You for this place?" she asked, jerking a thumb towards their gathering point.

"Wrong?" Kate shrugged, choosing to drag her eyes away from the huge machines outside the window, and onto this other girl. "No."

"Not what I expected..." Yes, it was that. "I mean, what kind of moron gets into one of those things now?"

Kate frowned. You might get the impression she wouldn't be caught dead gambling her life on something that would barely get off the ground before the magic killed it.

"The last one of those I saw," she said, gesturing out the window. "Was in burnt pieces on the ground." And had been for a good few years. It hadn't been encouraging.

"Hell no," Kate blurted instantly, slanting a look at Mercy. "These things haven't been in commission since before I was born."

Which would be why she was eying them so suspiciously.

"... Coffee?" Marshall explained, narrowing his eyes slightly in confusion. Who didn't know Starbucks? They were only our new Caffeinated Overlords. "Delicious giver of caffeine? I mean, it's no Red Bull, but it'll do in a pinch. Or, y'know, hot chocolate, or tea, or whatever. It's not like I'll only pick up coffee."

Oh, see coffee, that she knew.

"You couldn't have just said 'I'm getting coffee'?" she wondered, digging a hand into her pocket to see if she even had change. Not knowing things bugged Kate, just a little.

"Some people are particular," he pointed out. "I mean, back home, I'm totally a Tim Hortons kinda guy, but you don't see them much in the States. I figured it was probably safer to go with somewhere most people would know."

Kate's world, being particular was a bad trait to have. Things sold as 'chicken' were more likely to be dog, coffee... "So long as it doesn't have mud in, I'll drink it."

Thing was, the chances of them actually taking the future money she had to offer was extremely unlikely.

"If I had one, it probably would," she told the guy, looking over at him. Because Kate would make a shitty owner. But at least she was honest about that fact. "I'd forget to feed it."
