BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

"Wrong?" Kate shrugged, choosing to drag her eyes away from the huge machines outside the window, and onto this other girl. "No."

"Not what I expected..." Yes, it was that. "I mean, what kind of moron gets into one of those things now?"

"I... would imagine quite a lot of morons, given how many people fly each day," Mercy said, looking at her a little oddly.

Kate frowned. You might get the impression she wouldn't be caught dead gambling her life on something that would barely get off the ground before the magic killed it.

"The last one of those I saw," she said, gesturing out the window. "Was in burnt pieces on the ground." And had been for a good few years. It hadn't been encouraging.

"Hell no," Kate blurted instantly, slanting a look at Mercy. "These things haven't been in commission since before I was born."

Which would be why she was eying them so suspiciously.

And now Mercy was slanting a look at her. "Uh... where exactly are you from?"

Maybe the girl was just a little nuts?

Kate hesitated a moment, some internal debate over what exactly you should tell virtual strangers taking place. Her father would probably hate anything like truth being shared.

Kate didn't much care at this point.

"Savannah," she answered, after those few moments. People at The Order had got the truth, why not here. "Georgia." Technically, it was more recently Atlanta, but... she hated Atlanta. "You?"

"Aspen- I mean, Portland, Oregon." Mercy hated stumbling over the new place she was supposed to call home. "But last I heard, they were still flying planes in Savannah."

Yeah, Mercy was getting one of those looks Kate reserved for the clearly delusional. "Last I heard, there weren't any in Oregon. Or anywhere else."

Kate shifted, "This whole place, it's so..." Not dissolved into rubble. "I've been to DC before. This is not the same."

Yeah, Kate was getting a similar look from Mercy. "How do you think I got here? Not like anyone was going to drive me all this way."

"I didn't get driven either," Kate huffed. "Just dropped at a ley point and told where to get off." Thank you, Greg.

But at least her directions seemed to have taken her the right place, as wrong as it felt to her.

"A ley point? Like ley lines?" Mercy'd heard of those, of course. Lots of magical beings used them in one way or another. She focused more on what her nose was telling her, trying to see if she could scent magic on the other girl.

"Yeaaaah," Kate drew out, frowning at Mercy. She shrugged, letting the comforting weight of Slayer move against her back. "What?"

She couldn't quite tell - not with the diesel fumes and all. "Nothing," Mercy said. No sense pissing her off if she was a witch or fae or something.

With the magic down, Kate could feel very little of anything, which made her even more on edge than normal.

Nothing. "That's such bull." Of course it wasn't nothing. "It's never nothing, because no one's ever actually thinking nothing." It just didn't happen.

Mercy shrugged. "Maybe not. Nothing important then."

At least not that she was telling the maybe crazy/maybe magical girl whose name she didn't even know.

Kate eyed the other girl a little suspiciously. "If you say so." It didn't sound entirely like she actually believed that.

"So how come you're all the way out here?" Oregon to D.C. was a long and dangerous trip in her world, far worse than the short hop she'd had to take from Atlanta.

"My mother decided it would be good for me to get away from home for a while," Mercy said. "And with some help from a family friend they decided on this place."
