BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Timing had worked in Bruce's favor this morning. After a long overnight flight from Japan, he was really early for the shuttle to Fandom. That was according to plan. This way he'd get to see how people came into the room marked "Fandom High," whether they were nervous, or excited, or annoyed at the very thought of having to go to school.

Those first impressions didn't necessarily mean anything, but Bruce felt they often gave a good insight into how his new classmates would react in a stressful situation. You never knew when that kind of thing might come in handy.

[OOC: OCD is coming up!]

Slightly bent under the weight of the battered duffel bag she had over her shoulder, Dru pushed open the door to the room and made her way to a seat that gave her a view of door. She could hear her dad's voice in her head, "Never put your back to the door, girl. Always know who's coming and who's going. It'll keep you alive."

Dru dropped the duffel, took a seat and looked casually around at the room's other occupants.

"Hey," Roy said to the newest girl. He didn't give any outward sign of noting her scouting-type behavior, but notice he did. "Let me guess, another new kid?"

"Got it in one," she nodded. "At least for the semester."

Dru was used to being the sole new kid. Being one of a group could be interesting. Habit had her checking to see if he had any touch of the Real World on him. Not that she expected it, but once again Dru remembered her dad's reminders on staying safe.

"I'm Dru."

"Roy," he said with a little nod of his chin. "Nice to meet you, Dru."

Dru could do small talk, honestly. She just usually didn't usually bother because it was much easier to keep a low profile when you kept your head down. But somehow she had a feeling going to Fandom wasn't going to be like startingY a school as the only new student in the middle of the semester.

"Likewise. You're into archery?" she asked with a nod towards the bags.

Roy grinned. "Yep. It's kind of a hobby, you know? What about you? I mean, that guy--" he jerked his head in Gunn's general direction "--thought they were golf clubs."

"Dad's a hunter," Dru explained, even if she didn't explain just what he hunted. "So I've seen the equipment, even if I don't really have the upper body strength to use it well myself."

A good looking guy, trying to be chivalrous to the new girl? Experience had taught Dru to be just a little suspicious. "I appreciate it," she said, a trace of her mixed Appalachian and Southern accent in her voice. "But I've made it this far, I can handle it till we get to the school."

"Dru," she replied, smiling slightly to make up for her refusal. "Are you the welcoming committee or another new student?"

"Who'll be student council president in no time, no doubt" Dru answered. "It'll look good on your college applications."

As nice as all the boys were, Leia was pleased to see another girl as well. "Hello," she said. "I'm Leia. You are going to Fandom?"

Dru glanced at Leia warily as the faint taste of oranges and salt appeared in her mouth. She couldn't tell what the girl was, but she had a touch of the Real World to her aura. "I am," she nodded. "I'm Dru."

"I was beginning to think I was the only girl going to this school," Leia said. "My father would have a heart attack."

"Because there are boys?" That was something Dru's dad wouldn't even think about out. He'd be more worried about other worldly threats. Besides, he knew Dru was more then capable of handling herself with any boy.

The girl, Leia, Dru reminded herself, didn't seem like much of a threat, but Dru wouldn't be dropping her guard any time soon.

"If there were nothing but boys," Leia corrected her. "My aunts, on the other hand, would prefer I went to an all girl's school."

Dru snorted. "I don't know. Generally I think an all boys school would be easier. Guys in general are easier. They burp, they scratch, they let testosterone get the best of them. Feed them a steak, give them a remote and a big TV and they're happy. Girls on the other hand..." Well, Dru'd leave her opinion of the fairer sex unsaid for the moment. Okay, mostly unsaid. "They can be catty bitches."

"Need help with that bag?" Kurt asked her. Because he was helpful like that.

Another knight in shining armor.

Except...What the hell kind of school had her father signed her up for Dru wondered. As more people arrived it was getting harder and harder to tell just who was giving off the feel of the Real World, but she was pretty certain that this boy was one of them.

"Thanks, but I think I've got it for the moment."

But she could be polite and do the small talk thing at least till she figured out if he was going to be a threat. "I'm Dru. You're another new student?"

Kurt nodded. "Ja. I'm Kurt." He edged closer, and looked around the room. "Believe it or not, I think EVERYONE in this room is a new student," he pointed out.

She was trying to be wary, but he seemed like a friendly sort. "Howdy and all that. I take it you're not from around here?"
