BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Timing had worked in Bruce's favor this morning. After a long overnight flight from Japan, he was really early for the shuttle to Fandom. That was according to plan. This way he'd get to see how people came into the room marked "Fandom High," whether they were nervous, or excited, or annoyed at the very thought of having to go to school.

Those first impressions didn't necessarily mean anything, but Bruce felt they often gave a good insight into how his new classmates would react in a stressful situation. You never knew when that kind of thing might come in handy.

"Hey," Roy said to the newest girl. He didn't give any outward sign of noting her scouting-type behavior, but notice he did. "Let me guess, another new kid?"

"Got it in one," she nodded. "At least for the semester."

Dru was used to being the sole new kid. Being one of a group could be interesting. Habit had her checking to see if he had any touch of the Real World on him. Not that she expected it, but once again Dru remembered her dad's reminders on staying safe.

"I'm Dru."

"Roy," he said with a little nod of his chin. "Nice to meet you, Dru."

Dru could do small talk, honestly. She just usually didn't usually bother because it was much easier to keep a low profile when you kept your head down. But somehow she had a feeling going to Fandom wasn't going to be like startingY a school as the only new student in the middle of the semester.

"Likewise. You're into archery?" she asked with a nod towards the bags.

Roy grinned. "Yep. It's kind of a hobby, you know? What about you? I mean, that guy--" he jerked his head in Gunn's general direction "--thought they were golf clubs."

"Dad's a hunter," Dru explained, even if she didn't explain just what he hunted. "So I've seen the equipment, even if I don't really have the upper body strength to use it well myself."

"That's cool," Roy said. "It takes some building up, yeah. But there's always crossbows, right?

"True enough." But they were for hunting suckers, and as a general rule, her father avoided any dealings with them. "But when it comes down to it, I personally don't like hunting anything I've seen crying in a Disney movie, so I haven't had much practice with it." Besides, Dru generally preferred guns.

"Or a compound bow, I guess..." Roy said, then grinned. "Fair enough, but, you know, there are always targets." Or criminals.

"I do pretty well with those. Although usually I'm shooting a gun of some sort," Dru admitted. "So does the school have some sort of a team you'll be shooting for? Or do you just not want to let go of your toys?"

"No teams that I've heard of. It's just the one thing I'm really good at, you know?"

"Yeah, I get that," she nodded. "I like to sketch. Dad says I'm pretty good at it." And this conversation was going to win the award for most amount of personal information shared in the shortest amount of time with a relative stranger ever.

"That's cool," Roy said. "I can't draw, like, at all. It's kind of sad, really."

"That's what dad says. He claims stick figures are too difficult for him." Dru might have still been annoyed at her dad for sending her to school, but the thought of him still made her smile fondly.

"I can manage stick figures," Roy said. "But that's about it, I'm afraid."

"Well we can make a deal. I come across someone that needs a William Tell type, I'll point them in your direction," Dru grinned. "And if you find someone that needs mad drawing skills, send them to me."

"Might want to hold off on that, I'm pretty out of shape right now," Roy said. "What if I'm the one who needs mad drawing skills?"

He did look a little rough around the edges. Dru had originally thought that might have been due to slow a recovery after a rough New Year's Eve, but apparently not.

"If you ask nicely, I'd probably help you out. Us newbies have to stick together after all."

It was more than that, yeah. "I'll be sure to ask very nicely, then."

"You plan on getting back into shape?" Dru asked.

"That's the idea," Roy agreed. "I'm sure there'll be a gym somewhere around, right? There's a whole lot of weightlifting in my future."

"I'd think so? I mean aren't there rules about phys ed and all that?" Fortunately Dru didn't need much more then the basics to keep up her training. "Maybe I'll see you there since my dad will have my ass if I let my training stop."

"Maybe I will," Roy said with a grin.

Oh, yeah. This school didn't suck so far.
