Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Since the area with all the informational signs was bound to get a bit clogged up, even more tables and chairs had been set up on the lawn, in a slightly different spot.

Tahiri hadn't run into anyone new from her world yet, or anyone who claimed to be related to her, or anything like that. This was a relief -- but she was still keeping a wary eye out as she wandered the picnic -- it was warm enough out, but she had her Jedi robes on today. It seemed like the thing to do.

No shoes, though. Duh.

It wasn't so much a social visit sending Jaina in Tahiri's direction, as much as it was a curious, "Have you seen anyone I'm related to yet?"

"Jaina!" Curiosity or not, Tahiri was actually glad to see her. "You're back! And no, as far as I can tell, none of us have any new relatives this time."

"It was a short trip," she sighed. "You're looking better there, by the way."

"Yeah?" She was kind of worried about this other her, considering the other other her and all. "Did you give her a hug like I asked? Did things go okay for you?"

"I did, and she looked at me funny for a bit," Jaina assured her. "It went o- It went. Against all odds, it was a successful mission, let's say that."

"Bet she wasn't expecting that." Mind you, if Jaina hugged her, she'd probably not expect it either; still, Tahiri was amused. "And good. About time things started going right. Anyone interesting in the new bunch so far?"

Jaina still wasn't ready to say that things were going right, but they had at least done what they'd set out to do, which was the important thing. It just happened to come on the heels of other successful operations. "I haven't been too social. I have a new little sibling and a roommate, neither of which I planned on, but they seem okay. I'm rooming with Ender's sister."

"You not being too social, when is that a surprise?" Tahiri asked as lightly as she could. "My little sibling is a kriffing jerk -- Ender's sister is here?"

Griff had heard about boys in robes, but not girls. And barefooted at that.

He watched this one curiously.

Tahiri noticed, or possibly sensed, someone watching her and glanced in Griff's direction. "Hi," she said, offering him a wave.

He was caught and tried to look like he hadn't been staring. "Oh, hey. Nice day for it?" No, he wasn't very good at pretending.

Tahiri grinned and brushed a stray lock of hair back from her forehead. "What, you mean my feet?" she asked, wiggling her toes. "I hate shoes."

"You don't worry about roughing 'em up?" Griff wondered. "Or broken bits of glass, that sort of thing?"

"I wear them if I have to," Tahiri said, the way she wrinkled her nose indicating that she really hated doing it when it was necessary. "Usually when I'm on some unfamiliar planet. But around here I don't really bother."

"Still no Emma," Firekeeper reported, having spotted Tahiri.

"Really?" Tahiri frowned. "Maybe she just hasn't arrived yet. It wouldn't be the first time . . ."

Firekeeper nodded. "Am hoping so. Would no be good if you went to trouble of getting me to do this big sibling program, if I not have small sibling."

"Hopefully yours is better than mine," Tahiri said with a grimace. "If it wouldn't get me in trouble and lead me straight to the dark side, which I don't want to do, thanks, I'd be tempted to Force-hurl him into the ocean."

Firekeeper snorted. "Blind Seer say he would be willing to scare this one, because he is no student. But I think this no being a student could make worse trouble, if he do so."

"I appreciate the offer," Tahiri told Blind Seer. "But yeah, I think we should keep that off the table. What do you guys think of the rest of the new kids so far?"

That question earned a shrug from Firekeeper. "None too bad. Many curious about Blind Seer. But, we come to expect that."

"Can you blame them? Not many students around here have wolves for friends," Tahiri replied. "If one more person makes a crack about how short I am, though . . . why does everyone have to comment on that?"
