Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Since the area with all the informational signs was bound to get a bit clogged up, even more tables and chairs had been set up on the lawn, in a slightly different spot.

Blair watched the crowd and kept her eye out for anyone else who might be worth her time.

Chuck felt he was worth Blair's time. Which would be why he recognized her from behind (yeah, you don't forget an ass like that) he sidled up beside her for a chat.

And, yes, that was his hand sliding across her lower back. Like he could resist that.

"Having fun?"

Blair was ready to deck whoever was touching her until she heard Chuck's voice. "So far. So many new people, so little time."

"Find anybody worth corrupting yet?" Chuck asked, sliding his hand all the way around to her waist and keeping it there. An unconscious possessive warning to the new kids? Maybe.

Blair could've shoved Chuck's hand away but that would've just brought up a whole argument that would waste time that was better spent on assessing the newbies.

At least that was her story and she was sticking to it.

"It's early," Blair said. She looked wistful. "I miss the days when I could get dossiers on everyone in advance. It saved so much time."

"I'm sure you'll be able to con the people in the office one of these days," Chuck said with a smirk. "Until then we'll have to make do with our innate ability to weed out the people worth our time from the sea of losers."

"If we have to be old-fashioned," Blair allowed. "Though I do miss the efficiency."

"It would help make decisions on people from other planets easier," Chuck agreed. "It's hard to judge someone on their shoes when they come from a place that never knew good taste existed."

"Or by their title if they're from some backwater burg where all they rule over is bugs," Blair agreed.

"They really are making more work for us," Chuck sighed. They really did need to make friends with the office people.

"I wonder if this could be spun as a volunteer opportunity?" Blair mused aloud.

"Like how?" he asked. She was always better at those sort of plots than he was. His plans usually had to involve a hooker and blackmail.

"Spearheading the welcome," Blair said. She put on her best 'good student' demeanor. "Using our experience to figure out a way to ease the passage for those students who have no idea what they're getting into."

"Blair?" She'd already had a run-in with Eric and Chuck, why shouldn't Blair be here too? At least with her best friend here, there'd be someone who made sense. "Thank God. I was starting to think I'm going crazy."

[identity profile] gameknowsgame.livejournal.com 2009-05-10 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Blair set land-speed records for being shocked, and then hiding how shocked she was. S? Here? And neither Chuck nor Eric had told her she was coming? Oh Blair was going to have to kill somebody. Slowly and painfully.

But first she needed control of the situation.

"What are you doing here?" Blair asked. Her tone could've sounded surprised, could've sounded accusing. It was hard to tell with Blair.

"I don't know anymore." If Blair was good at hiding her surprise, Serena was equally as good at being so wrapped up in her own concerns that she didn't notice it at first. "This was supposed to be a summer away. You were going to be in Europe, my mom and Bart were on their honeymoon, I could get a breather. And now everyone's here, and they all sound crazy."

She took a deep breath, "but you're here, and that makes up for Chuck being here. I mean, I know you two have a thing, but did my mom have to marry Bart?"

Yes, totally wrapped up in her own concerns. "What are you doing here, anyway?"

That was okay, Blair was wrapped up in her own concerns. It was one of many reasons why the two of them made such good besties.

"Europe was last year," Blair said. Nevermind that her Serena had been at boarding school then, and that Blair had come to Fandom specifically to get away from her. She still felt it was yet another example of how Serena didn't care about her enough to notice. "And I do not have a thing with Chuck! Who told you that?"

By God if people were going to be spreading rumors Blair at least wanted to have gotten some sex out of it first.

"Please, Blair, do not start going on about this being different timelines or worlds, or I don't know. Chuck made no sense - not that unusual, if I really think about it."

Serena didn't know what was going on. She hated not knowing what was going on. "You told me. The two of you were going to jet off to Europe, and then you were going to spend some time with your Dad and Roman, remember?"

Please say she remembered.

"Serena," Blair said, with the sort of sweetness that S of all people would know meant the exact opposite of her kind tone, "how could I have had that conversation with you when not only is it not true but I haven't seen you in over a year?"

Blair may have gotten a little bitter at the end there.

Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2009]

[identity profile] golden-rising.livejournal.com 2009-05-10 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Bitter enough that Serena noticed. "Blair? What's going on. Look, if you're still mad about Georgina, then just tell me."

Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2009]

[identity profile] gameknowsgame.livejournal.com 2009-05-10 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not mad." Mad would imply caring, and Blair didn't want Serena to know she still had that kind of effect on her. "I'm just wondering when you started adding mushrooms to your favorite chemical repetoire."

[identity profile] golden-rising.livejournal.com 2009-05-10 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't do drugs anymore, and you know that." Except that one incident with GHB and that had been because Georgina had spiked her drink. "C'mon, B, what's up?"

"What's up is that you vanish without so much as a word then expect you can come wandering back in as though nothing happened?" Blair asked. "Not just wander back, but show up at my school?"

Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2009]

[identity profile] golden-rising.livejournal.com 2009-05-10 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"B, that was a year ago almost." Of course Serena thought she was talking about Constance. "We've been through all of this already. Why I left, why I came back."

[identity profile] gameknowsgame.livejournal.com 2009-05-10 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I think I'd remember if we had," Blair said. It would have involved a great deal of groveling on S's part.
