Since the area with all the informational signs was bound to get a bit clogged up, even more tables and chairs had been set up on the lawn, in a slightly different spot.

Blair could've shoved Chuck's hand away but that would've just brought up a whole argument that would waste time that was better spent on assessing the newbies.

At least that was her story and she was sticking to it.

"It's early," Blair said. She looked wistful. "I miss the days when I could get dossiers on everyone in advance. It saved so much time."

"I'm sure you'll be able to con the people in the office one of these days," Chuck said with a smirk. "Until then we'll have to make do with our innate ability to weed out the people worth our time from the sea of losers."

"If we have to be old-fashioned," Blair allowed. "Though I do miss the efficiency."

"It would help make decisions on people from other planets easier," Chuck agreed. "It's hard to judge someone on their shoes when they come from a place that never knew good taste existed."

"Or by their title if they're from some backwater burg where all they rule over is bugs," Blair agreed.

"They really are making more work for us," Chuck sighed. They really did need to make friends with the office people.

"I wonder if this could be spun as a volunteer opportunity?" Blair mused aloud.

"Like how?" he asked. She was always better at those sort of plots than he was. His plans usually had to involve a hooker and blackmail.

"Spearheading the welcome," Blair said. She put on her best 'good student' demeanor. "Using our experience to figure out a way to ease the passage for those students who have no idea what they're getting into."

"That would be such a kind gesture, Miss. Waldorf. But why would you need the new student's dossiers for that?" Chuck asked.

"To more adequately provide for their unique needs," Blair continued. "For example, I'm sure students who come from earlier times would appreciate a primer on how to use the basic technology needed for them to excel in their studies."

Chuck bit his lower lip and smiled. "You're terrible."

"You're welcome," he said, laughing a little. "I'll trust that if you put this plan into action I'll get to look at all the secret information on the new kids?"

Blair rolled her eyes at Chuck even needing to ask. "Like I'd trust anyone else to help me make the final judgements?"

"I just like hearing you confirm the fact that you need me," Chuck said, unable to keep from sliding his hand up Blair's side as he spoke.

"Sounds like that means you need me," Blair pointed out. Ignore how she still wasn't shoving Chuck's hand away. It meant nothing, really.

"I'll admit that having you around does make certain things in life easier," Chuck allowed. That was about the closest he was going to get to admitting she was right.

"So long as you acknowledge the truth," Blair said. She wasn't wondering if having her around also made certain things harder. Or at least, she wasn't wondering that out loud.

"I like to give credit where credit is due," Chuck said. "Of course if you'd like me to thank you a different way I'm sure we could arrange something. Could continue what we started in the bar for instance..."

"You making me drinks?" Blair replied, with an innocense that made it clear she was being deliberately obtuse. Mostly to see how Chuck would react.

"Feel free to pamper and dote on me at any time," Blair told him. Which actually would get her in the mood, but that was beside the point.

She felt that was true regardless of who was doing the serving.
