Ethics [Tuesday, October 7, 2nd period]

Today the class was meeting in the Danger Room.

"Welcome to your midterm," Anakin said, pacing across the flight deck of a ship. Behind him, thousands of pricks of lights showed that a space battle had been paused for him to talk. "Today, you will get to be Jedi."

His eyes twinkled at Tahiri before going flat. "Or try, anyway. Your mission," he said, striding over to a three-dimensional schematic of the ship, "is to rescue the Chancellor of the Republic, who has been kidnapped by a General Grievous, the leader of a Separatist movement. There's also another fearsome warrior aboard, a Lord of the Sith named Count Dooku. He is not to be underestimated. He took my arm off when I was 20."

He shrugged it off.

"Regardless. You will be paired up and rescue the Chancellor. Alive, please. Your mission is to fight past the droids and the Sith Lord, get back on a different ship and the hell off of this one as quickly as possible."

He waved his hand towards the control panel. The students would now find themselves in brown robes and holding unlit lightsaber hilts (well, except for Jan. Anakin hadn't figured out how that could work). They would work like the real things, but only in the Danger Room.

Their reflexes, regrettably, were what they had come in with.

"Try not to die," Anakin said, "and for the love of the Force, don't do stupid things with your lightsabers like try to skewer your classmates or write your name in the floor." He then listed off the pairings:

You're in the hanger bay of an enormous ship, rocking the same outfit that Anakin wears.

Except in brown. And without the leather.

Molly wasn't sure what the heck the robes were about, but the sword was awesome. She stood back from people while she tried to get the hang of swinging it and waited for her partner.

The lightsaber, Firekeeper had to admit, was... interesting. The swirlyness of the robes was less interesting, more irritating.

Blind Seer had opted out of wearing the robe. And was currently teasing Firekeeper about the fact that he could do so while she couldn't as they waited for Agnes.

While he waited for Dick, Bumblebee was trying to decide if he liked his robe or not, and whether it was worth using the lightsaber when he was more likely to cut off a digit than use it successfully.

Harvey was there and was looking down at his robes with distaste. Well. A least it wasn't leather.

Jan flattened his ears, stamped a hoof, and started shaking the robes into a more comfortable position while he waited for his partner.

Unicorns didn't wear clothes, and he wasn't going to have the things tripping him up if he had to fight or run.

Toby was having a hard time finding his hands in all that clothing. "Dude, this robe is insane. No wonder he's so cranky sometimes."

Lee was feeling moderately better about things after his phone call last night. He loitered around the area to wait for his partner.

Fight past the battle droids!

The simulation roars back into life as you find yourself in midleap above a starfighter that has clearly seen better days.

And here come the battle droids. They're pretty stupid, but they make up for it by bringing a lot of them along.

And they're all aiming their weapons at you. This could be bad.

Oh, yay, battle robots. Michael wondered idly if he could use his powers, then focused on the nearest droid and tried to melt it. Just to check.

It wasn't quite her lightsaber, but it was close enough, and Tahiri ignited it with the familiar snap-hiss, ready to deflect . . . definitely not all of those blaster bolts. And mid-leap wasn't exactly the best position for hiding behind things.

Well, Sithspit.

She reached out in the Force to yank (hopefully) a few of the nearer droids' weapons free. And tried very hard not to remind herself that they were droids.

"We don't wish to fight you!" Agnes announced, from her strategic position behind Blysse and Blind Seer. "Let us through so we can talk to your leader!"

"This isn't good," Harvey mumbled to Ella. He fired up his lightsaber and held it up in a defensive position.

It could be bad, Jan realised instantly, but he did what any self-respecting unicorn warrior would do: pinned his ears and charged straight at them as he landed, ready to lash out with hooves or horn, or simply to bowl them over and trample them underfoot.

Save the <s>Emperor</s> Chancellor!

Aww, he looks so scared. And he says something about a Sith Lord behind you? That's probably not good....

Peyton took a deep breath, made sure Penelope was safely with her and headed in to try and save the Chancellor.

The battle droids are fully moddable (and very, very stupid...) and SP is love--as long as you and your partner are up for it, I'll keep throwing Palpatine and Dooku at you all week :)

Anakin is also hosting detention this weekend, so if you want to do something stupid with your lightsaber, he'll be more than happy to spend more time with you.

Would it be all right to assume danger room lightsabers would be fenceable with a unicorn's horn? (Jan's going to look REALLY silly trying to carry one in his teeth!)
