Ethics [Tuesday, October 7, 2nd period]

Today the class was meeting in the Danger Room.

"Welcome to your midterm," Anakin said, pacing across the flight deck of a ship. Behind him, thousands of pricks of lights showed that a space battle had been paused for him to talk. "Today, you will get to be Jedi."

His eyes twinkled at Tahiri before going flat. "Or try, anyway. Your mission," he said, striding over to a three-dimensional schematic of the ship, "is to rescue the Chancellor of the Republic, who has been kidnapped by a General Grievous, the leader of a Separatist movement. There's also another fearsome warrior aboard, a Lord of the Sith named Count Dooku. He is not to be underestimated. He took my arm off when I was 20."

He shrugged it off.

"Regardless. You will be paired up and rescue the Chancellor. Alive, please. Your mission is to fight past the droids and the Sith Lord, get back on a different ship and the hell off of this one as quickly as possible."

He waved his hand towards the control panel. The students would now find themselves in brown robes and holding unlit lightsaber hilts (well, except for Jan. Anakin hadn't figured out how that could work). They would work like the real things, but only in the Danger Room.

Their reflexes, regrettably, were what they had come in with.

"Try not to die," Anakin said, "and for the love of the Force, don't do stupid things with your lightsabers like try to skewer your classmates or write your name in the floor." He then listed off the pairings:

You're in the hanger bay of an enormous ship, rocking the same outfit that Anakin wears.

Except in brown. And without the leather.

Dōjima held the lightsaber out away from her, as if it was going to bite.

"I really hope you know how to use one of these," she said, glancing at her partner. "Because I have no idea what's going on."

"It appears to be a sword," Worf replied trying to get a sense of the weapons balance and use. "I take it you are unfamiliar with using something like it?"

Molly wasn't sure what the heck the robes were about, but the sword was awesome. She stood back from people while she tried to get the hang of swinging it and waited for her partner.

Myn walked over to Molly, feeling incredibly awkward in the robes. "Molly, right?"

He would trade the lightsaber for a good blaster in a heartbeat. Maybe it would make a decent projectile, if thrown right...

"Yeah, hey. Myn?" She hoped the pronunciation was right. Molly was very proud of herself for figuring out how to turn off the sword. "Any experience in rescuing?"

The lightsaber, Firekeeper had to admit, was... interesting. The swirlyness of the robes was less interesting, more irritating.

Blind Seer had opted out of wearing the robe. And was currently teasing Firekeeper about the fact that he could do so while she couldn't as they waited for Agnes.

Agnes activated the lightsaber, and held it away from her as if she were afraid she'd accidentally cut a limb off.

Well, she was.

"I vote we try diplomacy," she told her partners. "If it comes to fighting, you two are going to have to go it alone."

"You will have to do diplomacy alone, if we try," Firekeeper shrugged. "Wolves is not good at such."

While he waited for Dick, Bumblebee was trying to decide if he liked his robe or not, and whether it was worth using the lightsaber when he was more likely to cut off a digit than use it successfully.

As Dick walked over to Bumblebee, he thought about how the next time he was home, he was going to have to get some sword training from Bruce. It was something that came up far too often in classes.

"Hey, Bumblebee. Ready to do this?"

"I believe so," he said, glancing around. "I'm not eager to fight though, if perhaps we can find a way to the Chancellor that is less dependent on weaponry."

Harvey was there and was looking down at his robes with distaste. Well. A least it wasn't leather.

Ella seemed comfortable in her robes, at least. She ran her lightsaber through the air experimentally, pointing it well away from Harvey or other classmates.

"Harvey? How shall we start?"

Jan flattened his ears, stamped a hoof, and started shaking the robes into a more comfortable position while he waited for his partner.

Unicorns didn't wear clothes, and he wasn't going to have the things tripping him up if he had to fight or run.

Jess looked very annoyed by the robes, but it was almost balanced out by being partnered with Jan. Almost.

"Are you going to be okay in that thing?" Jess asked, eying Jan's robes.

Michael glanced around for Meg, resisting the temptation to turn on that sword.

Meg walked over, feeling just a little silly in her robes. "So how do you want to do this?"

Toby was having a hard time finding his hands in all that clothing. "Dude, this robe is insane. No wonder he's so cranky sometimes."

"I've had worse," Ender commented, although privately, he had to agree with the sentiment. "It's the weapon I'm worried about."

Lee was feeling moderately better about things after his phone call last night. He loitered around the area to wait for his partner.

Penelope was scared. She didn't want to do this. At. All. She hadn't even picked up her lightsaber yet. Would she get in trouble if she flat out refused?
