Phys Ed: Week 3, Period 2 (9/19)

When students entered the Danger Shop this week, rather than a gym, they would find themselves transported to a lush green hillside. With a whole bunch of sheep.

As usual, Ronon started talking when he felt like it. "Okay, today you'll work with a partner to shear some sheep. Mc-my teammate said this is a traditional gym class for the Scottish people. Call it cultural gym or somethin.'" Ronon gestured to an area with all the necessary equipment for the process. "Grab some tools and some instructions and get started."

Ronon stopped himself from turning away. "Don't forget to dress out. Locker rooms are right behind you." Ronon himself was again wearing his standard leather ensemble.

Friday stared at the sheep. There was no way he was going to be able to catch one on his own, so he looked around pointedly making hopeful 'want to partner up?' faces at the people around him.

"If I haven't already said it," Sokka said as he sidled up to Friday, "you have the most awesome name in the history of ever."

He picked a stone up off the ground and hefted it, aiming at one of the sheep that was facing them.

Friday grinned at Sokka. "Thanks. So the plan is to bludgeon them with stones?" he asked innocently.

"I wasn't going to HURT it!" Sokka protested. "Just, you know, knock it unconscious. Unless you really feel like running around after big stinky animals?"

Re: Shear Sheep [9/16]

[identity profile] thankgoditsme.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Not really," Friday admitted. "But knocking it unconscious might accidentally crack the sheep's skull open. Or something. Unless you're really, really good with those stones." His tone suggested that he believed it was entirely possible that Sokka was awesome with stones. Possibly because he didn't want to chase after the sheep.

"I have really good aim," Sokka assured him. Hopefully, Friday wouldn't notice that he hadn't actually said anything about not cracking the sheep's skull.

Friday had noticed, but weighed up accidentally killing a sheep that wasn't real with having to spend the whole hour chasing after the sheep. "I think we'll only get one shot at this, so make it a good one. But if I see cerebrospinal fluid anywhere, I'm blaming you."

Re: Shear Sheep [9/16]

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Cerebro... can't you just say 'brain juice' like a normal person?!?"

Sokka winged the stone and it hit the sheep square between the eyes. It... didn't pass out, which was bad, but it did keel over onto its side and bleat pathetically, which was... well, heartbreaking. But at least it wasn't running away.

Sokka grimaced as he walked up to the sheep with the shears. "I'm so, so, sorry," he told the sheep. "But you should just be glad we're not gonna eat you."

Friday looked at Sokka as he followed, also looking remorseful even though he didn't do it. He was part of the team and that was guilty enough. "And be glad you're not real," Friday added. "Once this is all over, you won't feel a thing, as opposed to a brain lesion, possible concussion or long-lasting brain damage." He was trying, and failing, to keep a straight face while saying this more to Sokka than the sheep. Still, he did feel a bit guilty and had crouched down to console the sheep by stroking its head. This doubled as a measure to make sure it wasn't going to run off.

"She's FINE," Sokka insisted, more for his own benefit than Friday's, as he started shearing. "I've hit seals MUCH harder than that."

Of course, those seals were usually skinned and butchered shortly thereafter, so it wasn't really the same thing...

"Besides, everyone knows pigsheep -- I mean, sheep -- have really hard skulls."

Helen called a sheep over to her. This looked like hot messy work, but she'd probably done worse.

"You've got to be kidding me," she muttered vilely, waiting around with her arms crossed for a partner.

Francine was saying something similar as she walked over and gave Ino a wave, but probably a little less bitterly. "This is exercise?"

"Well," Ino said, scowling at the sheep. "They probably aren't exactly enthusiastic 'bout someone taking their fur."

Francine studied the sheep, not exactly certain what fake-season they were really in. "They would be if it was summer; it gets hot."
intraspective: (hateyouso)

That, Ino felt, was ridiculously optimistic. "I doubt anyone or thing would appreciate being grabbed by people and have their fur stripped from them."

"Well, enthusiastic might be going a little far," Francine agreed. "But they didn't really throw a fit about it when I saw it done when I was little."

That got a sideways glance. "On the bright side," Ino said determinedly, "It's just a fake."

She could kill it if it put up a fuss. Ino did not care if that lost her marks.

Francine eyed it dubiously. "A big fake. You think we're strong enough to hold it still?"
intraspective: (tougher than I look)

"Who knows?" Ino shrugged. "I'm stronger than I look though."

Firekeeper waited for a partner. Blind Seer... looked like he wanted to chase the sheep.

"Don't be stupid," Firekeeper said, kicking him in the ribs with one bare foot. "Even I can tell they're just illusions, and I'm nose-dead."

"Seriously?" Rodney looked from the sheep to the equipment and back. "In what wacko reality is this an appropriate gym class activity?" He shot a sidelong glare at Dex. "The caveman has officially lost what little sanity he had," he muttered.

Summer stared at the sheep and then at the shears in her hand. This was going to suck.

This was not the first time Dick had to sheer a sheep for great justice.

This was one of those times when Dick was grateful that nobody knew about his other life. That was an embarrassing day.

He was ready for a partner.
