Library [Saturday]

Her first library shift of the new year, and Mac has a brand new toy to keep her entertained today.

She also has coffee.

Mac is one seriously cheerful geek right about now.

Mac's moved on from library card application stacking to actual book stacking. She's still humming along to that music, though.

Someone wants more books than he brought with him. He's wandering in the stacks, and eventually comes to the same one Mac's in.

Mac caught sight of the movement out of the corner of her eye, and tugged her headphones from her ears as she balanced her pile of books.

She smiled at him. "Anything I can help you with?"

"I was just checking out what you've got", he said casually. "Looks like it's pretty good."

"This library's kinda awesome," Mac agreed. "Didn't have anything this good where I used to go to school."

"You one of the new people?"

"Yep. Just got in yesterday." He offered a hand, a little awkwardly - he knew it was expected but wasn't exactly a social wiz. "Michael."

Mac juggled her book stack around into one arm, and took his hand with her now free one.

"I'm Mac," she said in return. "And uh, welcome."

"Thanks." He returns her smile crookedly, shaking hands. "You been here long?"

"Two years... yesterday," Mac said after a moment of thought. "Scary, huh?"

"Really kind of is." It was a joke, though. "You really like it here, huh?"

"It's... had its moments, over the last couple of years," Mac said, giving a little shrug.

"It grows on you."

"Good enough for me", he returned, echoing the gesture. "Growing on you's better than my last school."

"Never really liked my last school all that much either," Mac admitted. "Neptune..." She pulled a face. "I fit in way better here. Everyone is a bit odd in their way."

"I like that."

First library shift of the new semester. No way was the roomie not showing up. "Hey Mac."

Mac grinned when she saw him, removing her headphones again. "Still shooting for that 'Best Roomie Ever' award, I guess?" she asked.

"Was that even up for a vote again?" Peter asked. "Should I make campaign posters?"

"I think you're up there for good, actually," Mac agreed. "But, hey, I think you'd also make for good poster material, if you decide to go that way."

"I leave that for Nathan," Peter said, handing over a cup of coffee to Mac. "He's the one who wants to be president someday."

Mac took the coffee happily. "Mmm, well, the coffee route is working very well for you," she said. "Thank you, so much."

"I am not above bribery," Peter said. "So how's thing's going so far? Much of a rush?"

"Not really," Mac replied. "It's been... a quiet start, really. Normally is on Saturday."

"Weekends are kinda slow."

"Meet the new librarian yet?" Peter asked, since he'd listened to radio.

"Yeah, just earlier... He seems alright. He didn't say much... Didn't even get a name out of him, actually."
