Her first library shift of the new year, and Mac has a brand new toy to keep her entertained today.

She also has coffee.

Mac is one seriously cheerful geek right about now.

"Not really," Mac replied. "It's been... a quiet start, really. Normally is on Saturday."

"Weekends are kinda slow."

"Meet the new librarian yet?" Peter asked, since he'd listened to radio.

"Yeah, just earlier... He seems alright. He didn't say much... Didn't even get a name out of him, actually."

"Think he's taken the 'no talking in the library' thing too far?" Peter guessed.

"No?" Mac said after a moment of thought. "I think... he is maybe just a quiet kinda guy. No excess chatter for him."

"I come from an Italian family," Peter said. "I honestly can't imagine what that's like."

"Yeah, most of my family are all with the talky," Mac said. "Our house is never quiet."

"So what classes are you taking?" Peter said. "I forgot to ask. I'm in Criminal Justice and Driver's Ed."

"I've got a couple with 'inventions' in the name," Mac replied. "Or, inventronics, or something." She shrugged. "Seems like a strangely long time ago that I made choices."

"I bet you'd be great at that," Peter said. "Maybe they'll help you figure out some way to improve the iPod."

"I don't think anything can improve the ipod as far as I'm concerned." Mac shrugged. "I'm a sucker for the shininess."

Peter grinned. "I went into the Apple store and waited until I heard something calling your name. I'm glad it worked out."

"See, you'd think in an Apple store, everything would be calling my name..." Mac said. "I'm impressed you managed to make out the din."

"It helped that I didn't know what your folks might have gotten you," Peter said. "I figured this way either you were getting something neat, or something you could exchange for something neat."

"And it is neat," Mac clarified, not that he probably needed it. "Very."

"I have really got to start planning on your birthday early so I can keep up."

"What?" Peter teased. "I can't trade this in for day to day awesomeness?"

"I'm not that great at day to day awesome," Mac said. "Although, if you had a job like this, I would totally bring you coffee, too."

"Yeah, but that would require working," Peter said. "You can see why I'm against it."

"I can," Mac agreed. "Except that I guess I'm an oddity in that I quite like working here..."

"You're an iconoclast," Peter said. "Marching to the beat of your own drummer. Or whatever you're currently listening to."

"Boy Least Likely To," Mac said. "So it's more likely to be a scraper, or a pair of spoons or something."

"Okay you realize that now you have to share some of your music just so I can know what you're listening to," Peter said.

"I'll play it to you later," Mac promised. "Its... odd, in a very countrified and... 'we make our own instruments' kind of way."

"I would never have guessed you for a country fan," Peter said.

"I'm not, really," she admitted. "But this stuff is quite fun."
