"No, my name's...Harold," he said randomly and then frowned. "That's even worse than Hopeless, I think. Harold...just Harold. No last name. See, hopeless."

Adah grinned broadly. "Harold Hopeless has hardly heard of help, harboring hindrance and heaps of hesitation," she pronounced, emphasizing every h and then rolled her eyes with a light chuckle. "Luckily, my name has an 'h' in in, when I want it to, so I think that means I can help."

"And what's your name?" Lee asked, leaning against the tree beside her. "I bet it's something good. Something amazing."

"Not in the slightest," Adah told him, her eyes drifting over the Eel as he joined her in leaning against the tree. "Adah Ellen Price. Almost more boring than Harold."

"Not even close," he said, shaking his head. "Harold's much more boring than Adah. Harold has the word old in it. That automatically makes me more boring."

Adah drew in a breath as she considered this revelation before giving a small nod. "You're absolutely right," she offered. "You are significantly more boring than I am. I'd work toward changing that, Harold. You don't want to be boring around a place like this."

"You don't like boring guys?" Lee asked with a slight raise of his eyebrow. "Because I change, make myself less boring, if it means you'll like me."

"Well, I don't know you," Adah reminded him coolly. "So I can't be certain, but the odds are probably against your favor if you are as boring as you say you are."

"What if I told you I was lying?" Lee said, dropping his voice. "My name's not really Harold and you do know me."

Adah shook her head, ducking it as she explained. "I wouldn't believe you. One, because you're a liar and I shouldn't believe anything that comes out of your mouth, and two, because I think I'd remember you if I knew you." Her head remained down, but she did look up, to catch Harold's eyes with a significant glance.

"I could try and persuade you to remember," he said, keeping his voice low and scooting just a tiny bit closer. "I have ways."

Oh, no, no, no. She was not allowing him to show those ways so quickly this time. She'd been making it far too easy for him. "So, since you think you can persuade me to remember, you are, then, admitting to being a liar," she pointed out.

"Maybe," he said neutrally. "Would I get to convince you if I did admit it?"

Adah took a long moment to make it very obvious that she was deeply contemplating this.

"You'll have to convince me to let you convince me first," she concluded.

He frowned dramatically and tapped his chin. "So, I've got to double convince you?"

Adah shook her head lightly. "Nope," she said, trying not to grin. "Triple. Because then you'll have to also convince me why I should forgive you for lying."

Or perhaps Adah was simply just milking this for everything it was worth.

"You're making it hard on a guy who maybe just wanted to be close to you," Lee said, subtly starting the convincing.

"If that's all you wanted," Adah offered, with a small, contrite smile and a lingering glance his way, "why didn't you just say so to begin with?"

"Because that would be too easy," he pointed out. "And I do things the hard way."

"Typical stupid male," Adah chided lightly with a roll of her eyes. "Doing things the hard way just because they're hard. Am I supposed to be impressed now?"

"Well, yeah," he said and buffed his nails on his shirt. "That's the whole point of us stupid males doing things hard. To impress girls."

"Because, you're right," Adah said, with a stern face of conviction and a nod that didn't quite follow suit as well because her neck decided to tic. "It just works wonders. Good thing this tree is here, else I'd fall from swooning."

"I could show you my arms," he said and he knew that was ridiculous but he was having fun with the tease and wanted to see what she'd say.

She laughed. "Not even five minutes and you're already contradicting yourself. Showing my your arms would be....much...much...." She shook her head, dropping her eyes toward the topic of conversation, and her voice with it, "much too easy."

"But would it work?" he asked quietly, moving his arms when he knew she was watching.
