Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

Quietly, Kerrigan found her old spot just outside the thick of things, where she settled. Keeping an eye on the crowds.

Outside the thick of things was good. It meant a chance to ask a question without having to raise voices over that of all the people. "Excuse me," Triela smiled politely, "I'm trying to locate my instructors. You don't happen to know where I might find..." She glanced down at her schedule, "Someone named 'Aly' or someone named 'Kerrigan', do you?"

That caught Kerrigan's attention. Somewhat. "I'm Lieutenant Kerrigan," she offered. "You're a student."

Triela smiled brightly and nodded, "Triela. Wow, that's pretty lucky, running into you right off." She blinked, "Unless you're a different Kerrigan from the one who teaches?"

"You'll be hard-pressed to find another Kerrigan around here," Kerrigan replied, smirking faintly. "Unless Fandom weirdness has done a number on me again. I take it you're in my class."

"Tactics 201," Triela nodded. Then she drew herself up slightly as if standing at attention, "It's nice to meet you, Lieutenant."

Life was so much easier when you didn't have to explain class titles assigned by apparently random forces.

No, it hadn't occured to Kerrigan that 'Tactics 201' may have been a little uncreative. "Same, Triela," she nodded. That made for at least two students in her class that weren't anything like Adama. That was good. "What brings you to Fandom?"

She could do small talk. Sometimes.

"Hillshire, he's my handler, feels that I 'rely too much on raw ability'. Apparently this is the place he decided would teach me to work on techniques." She shrugged, "It definitely seems... different."

"Different doesn't even begin to describe it," Kerrigan replied, dryly. "But I'm sure you'll hear the stories soon enough."

Mike had a big goofy grin on his face as he approached Kerrigan. "Hello fellow coworker!" he said, sounding just a bit too enthusiastically. "I'm Mike Cannon. Very nice to meet you."

Kerrigan eyed him with something between detached amusement and mild confusion. "Lieutenant Sarah Kerrigan," she replied, offering him a cool hand.

"Ooh, Lieutenant. What branch of the military?" asked Mike, making a subtle attempt to check for a wedding ring as he shook her hand.

"Special ops," Kerrigan replied, fluently (throwing off that old lie, yeah). And then her eyes snapped up at his face. "Don't even think about it."

Mike, who had been thinking about getting very friendly with his new coworker, looked a bit startled. "Oh, no, I'm not thinking about anything at all," he said, flustered.

"Yeah, I'm sure," Kerrigan countered, crossing her arms now that her hand was free. "Continue doing that."

"So, how long have you been teaching here, Lieutenant Kerrigan?" asked Mike, backing off slightly.

"Couple of months," Kerrigan replied, severely unimpressed.

"Lieutenant, you look bored," Lee said, wandering over. "Should I entertain you?"

"Adama."

Yeah, it'd been two weeks-- horrible, horrible weeks-- since Kerrigan last got to say anything with quite that intonation. "I don't know. How well do you run laps?"

She categorically denied being somewhat pleased to see him after all of that, even in the back of her own mind.

"Pretty damn good, if I don't say so myself," he said with a nod. "I'm in shape, if I'm anything. Used to run for fun back home. Me running would entertain you?"

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," she responded, dryly. "It would. Run me some laps to celebrate me not having to deal with you this term." She was totally going to miss him.

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, Lieutenant," Lee said, tapping his chest dramatically, "that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me. Do you really think that, just because I'm not in your class, I'm going to visit you?"

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was kind of hoping in that general direction," Kerrigan totally lied, eyeing him coolly. "Am I going to have to stick you to any more walls?"

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're not allowed to do that unless I do something to you first," Lee retorted, shaking his head. "And since my visits would just be to have the pleasure of your company, you'd get in trouble if you stuck me to walls."

"It's you, Adama," she snapped right back, "I'm sure you'll come up with something appropriately hare-brained soon enough."
