Ethics [Thursday, October 5, 1st period]

When the Ethics class arrived in the Danger Shop, they stepped into an entirely different world.

An incredibly dry, hot one. That smelled really bad.

Anakin waved his hand around the room. "Welcome to the embodiment of gluttony," he said, "the palace of a Hutt."

He concentrated on the controls on the far side of the room, and the simulation sprung to life: dozens of beings drinking, eating, and dancing, with all activity centered around a vile slug of a beast laying on the raised dais at the front of the room.

In a place of honor on the wall was a man, face twisted in a silent scream, encased in silver. Anakin ignored it as he walked past to point at the creature on the dais. "That," he said, nose wrinkling in disgust, "is a Hutt. This particular version was named Jabba, one of the most powerful crime lords in the galaxy." A grim smile turned the corners of his mouth up. "At least until he met my children."

He shook his head. "That is neither here nor there. Today is an interactive experience for you, class. Take a good hard look around. See the effects that gluttony can have."

His eyes went flat. "Touch any of the dancing girls and you'll regret it. That's a promise."

Explore Jabba's Palace!

Pair up with another student or wander around on your own! Listen to the band, chat up a bounty hunter or two, try a tasty live snack, go look at the guy on the wall. Anakin's dead serious about the dancing girls, though. You try to put the moves on one and he'll drop you in detention. And then he'll start to get upset.

He has a Thing about slavery.

Apart from the funny-looking aliens and the strange architecture the place didn't look too unfamiliar. River looked around for someone to go exploring with.

Seeing her father on the wall was not what Jaina was expecting to see today. It fell into one of those categories of things that she'd always known, but hadn't ever expected to see. And it was kind of weirding her out. So if anyone was looking for her, she was going to just be in this general area.

So far, she'd even forgotten to look for Mara.

Ed wanted to be anywhere but here as he kept trying to ignore memories that yesterday couldn't help bringing up. He wandered over to look at the guy on the wall, trying to determine exactly material it was made out of.

Drawing the hood of his cloak up to better be inconspicuous, Qui-Gon wandered around, taking in everything that he could. He stopped to take a closer look at the man on the wall.

"That really is quite distasteful," he murmured, wrinkling his nose against more than just the bad odors in the air.

Victor wandered around, making a mental note of what worked and what didn't work in a place like this. He didn't fully realize that's what he was doing, but it totally was.

Kabuto explored the place with vague interest. Some of these things were weird.

Why? Why would you do that? He has a handy protocol droid next to him for those of you not fluent in Huttese.

Careful, though. To talk to him, you need to stand on a trapdoor. If he doesn't like your questions...down you'll go.

Gavin and John took their turn talking to Jabba. Gavin tried not to make faces.

"Hello," he said. He figured that was safe.

Victor walked up to the Hutt and asked, "Why do you limit your base of operations to a backwards planet like this?"

You know that one person in every roleplaying group who doesn't understand that you're supposed to be pretending it's really real? Who doesn't really get the whole "in-character actions = in-character consequences" thing? Yeah, guess what?


Sokka walked up to Jabba. "Oh, BOY, are YOU ugly!"

He's here to field all questions from "ewww, why's that guy eating things that are still alive?" to "Where does the trapdoor lead to? We've lost a student" to "WTF? There's a guy on the wall!"

Or if you really want to know what his kids did to Jabba. He's kinda dying to share.

John wanted to hear the story and figured Anakin was there to teach so all would be fine. "What's the story with this Hutt and his interesting wall art?" he asked.

"Uhh... sir?" Sora said sheepishly as he came up to Anakin. "I think I kinda missed class last week Because Mun totally spazzed on EVERYTHING OMG and wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything important.
