Library: Friday [14.09]

Karal had come prepared this week, where prepared meant more tea and slightly fewer books. Once the library was set up, he opened the doors and settled behind the desk, writing diligently in his notebook.

:You look busy.: Altra strolled in and leapt onto the desk, making himself comfortable.

Karal stared. "Where have you been!"

:Around,: was all the reply he got as Altra rolled onto his side and went to sleep.

"Wonderful," Karal muttered, and went back to writing.

"Hello, Karal," she replied with a smile. "I'm here with lunch!" She held up the white paper bag.

Karal grinned, remembering what he'd said to Gavin about Molly. "You are," he agreed and stepped back to let her in. "Shall we eat at the table? The desk is rather--" He glanced over at it - books, scrolls, a map and a Firecat, in addition to what it normally held. "--buried."

As she walked in, Molly looked over at the desk and chuckled. "I don't think we really have a choice. The table is fine."

Altra yawned and stretched to his feet, hopping off the desk to pad over to Molly. :What did you bring for me?:

Karal shook his head and led the way to the table, pulling out a chair for Molly. "Since we haven't seen tail nor whisker of you since I returned, how was she to know you would be here?"

Molly grinned as she set the drinks down and took the seat Karal offered her. "Funny you should ask, Altra. I didn't know you'd be here, but I do have enough food for you, too." She opened the bag and began to pull out food.

A smaller bag, three wrapped bundles, plastic silverware and several small, plastic containers sat on the table. "These are French fries," she said, pointing at the small bag. "Potatoes cut up and fried. Very yummy." She then pointed at the three bundles. "These are hamburgers. Specifically, a hamburger, a cheeseburger and a mushroom and swiss burger. I got three so you could try different versions. The little containers are all the stuff you can put on top."

Karal sat across from her, eyes wide. "Glory, that is a lot of food!" He hadn't been hungry, or so he'd thought, but his stomach suddenly growled and he blushed.

:Which from the sounds of it is a good thing. I'm not eating the mushrooms,: Altra said as he jumped onto another chair. :I will eat the cheese, though.:

"Thank you for this. What should I try first?" he asked Molly, ignoring Altra.

Molly spread a napkin out in front of Altra. "More mushrooms for me then," she told him. "You can have most of the cheeseburger."

She turned to Karal with a smile. "I figured we won't get a chance to go to Luke's soon since you're so busy so I brought the hamburgers to you. Try the fries first while I cut up the burgers. There's ketchup and mayo for dipping. The red and the white stuff."

Karal picked up a fry, and dipped it in the ketchup before taking a bite. "It is good," he said when he'd finished chewing. "Very good! Altra, do you want to try it?"

:Too vegetablish for me,: he replied, eyes fixed on Molly.

Molly placed half of the cheeseburger in front of Altra and took off the top bun. "If you want more, you can have some of the plain hamburger," she said. "Next time, I'll get you a bacon cheeseburger."

She turned to Karal again, taking half of the mushroom and swiss burger for herself. "And now you can put any of the toppings on the burgers and see what you like best."

Altra took a delicate bite. :Molly knows how to treat a Firecat,: he said smugly.

"If you were around, I would feed you as well," Karal told him. "I think I will try it plain, first." He picked up his half of the hamburger and took a cautious bite, then smiled in appreciation.

Molly grinned and took a bite of her own burger. "Good, huh?"

Altra's, :Very,: and Karal, "It's wonderful," came at the same time.

Molly remembered the drinks. "I also got sodas," she said. "The dark one is Coke and the yellow one is Mountain Dew. You can try both, if you want."

"Mountain Dew, that's the one you like in the mornings," he remembered, setting his burger down and wiping his fingers on a napkin. "It sounds very refreshing. May I try that one first?"

Molly nodded and slid the cup over. "It's got caffeine in it and it is very sweet. It's okay if you don't like it. There are a lot of people who don't."

He took a sip and froze, eyes going very wide. Altra stopped eating and started to laugh.

Karal finally swallowed and set the cup down. "I think perhaps you should count me in that category."

Molly laughed and snagged the cup. "More for me!" she said and took a big sip. "If you didn't like the bubbles, you might not like the Coke either, but it's just a basic cola. Not as sweet or as caffeinated."

"The bubbles were not the problem." He made a face. "It is very sweet." There were fries, though, and he ate a few to take the taste out of his mouth.

Molly giggled more at his expression. "It isn't that bad," she said.

Karal nodded emphatically. "It is, but then one of the sweetest things we have in Karse is honey."

"I guess that would make a difference," Molly admitted and took another bite of her burger.

"And for something called Mountain Dew, it does taste quite unnatural," he added, and quickly took a bit of his burger.

Molly shrugged. "I've never really thought about the name," she said then grinned again. "And I won't argue on the unnatural thing. It's got citrus in it, but it certainly doesn't taste like orange."

"I will leave it for you," he decided and finished his burger.

Altra finished scarfing his burger, nosed the bottom bun, then collapsed in a sprawl across the chair. :Perfect. But bacon would be even better than perfect.:

"So, how is your work going?" Molly asked and took another bite of her burger.
