Library: Friday [14.09]

Karal had come prepared this week, where prepared meant more tea and slightly fewer books. Once the library was set up, he opened the doors and settled behind the desk, writing diligently in his notebook.

:You look busy.: Altra strolled in and leapt onto the desk, making himself comfortable.

Karal stared. "Where have you been!"

:Around,: was all the reply he got as Altra rolled onto his side and went to sleep.

"Wonderful," Karal muttered, and went back to writing.

Molly shrugged, but gave him a small grin and held onto his hand.

Altra stretched and possibly accidentally batted Karal, who glanced down. :Let her know,: he told him, then jumped off the chair and sauntered off.

Karal glanced up at Molly and brushed his thumb over her knuckles, back and forth. "Your acceptance makes this much easier to bear," he said softly. "I know it cannot be fun for you."

Molly shrugged again. "You told me from the beginning that your duty comes first. I want to be with you so I accept it."

Karal slowly smiled, then cupped her cheek and leaned forward to kiss her.

Molly leaned in and returned the kiss, not exactly happy, but happy enough.

"Vkandis knows, I do not deserve you, Molly," he murmured, shifting around to hug her. "I would take you with me if I could."

Molly grinned and hugged him back. "Wouldn't that be fun? Explaining me," she said with a laugh.

"It would be..interesting, not the least because almost no one knows this world exists." He moved back a little, so he could see her face, tucking her hair behind her ear. "But I would happily explain we were courting to those who know I am here, and they would all like you."

Molly smiled more and gave him a quick kiss.

"How many people know you're here?" she asked curiously.

Karal was happy to tell her as much as he could. "The Queen of Valdemar, and the Queen's Own Herald, Talia - she is also a Priest of Vkandis - Herald Kerowyn, who is...think a warleader, would be the closest, Florian, and of course Solaris, the Son of the Sun."

"Wow. That's not very many people at all."

"No, though I suspect Prince Daren may know, and possibly some of the senior Sun-priests." Karal still had hold of her hand, and he slid his fingers against hers. "That is why the time change was so serious. No one knew I was gone, and suddenly it was an absence of weeks, not days. It was not taken well," he explained carefully. "And that is why there is so much to do, so much has happened that Solaris must know."

Molly nodded. "It makes sense that you'd need to go back every week then," she said, feeling better about it now.

"It was different when only a few days were passing. There was much more time to do things." He smiled. "But I have nearly completed my report for Solaris, and then it will just be a matter of copying it, which shouldn't take more than a few hours."

Molly frowned a little in thought. "Do you need to copy it by hand?" she asked.

"Well, no, but I must have a copy for myself," he replied, frowning slightly. "Or I would have to duplicate all the work I have been doing."

Molly smiled. "If it's for yourself, you can just photocopy it," she explained. "It'll only take a few minutes."

"Using a camera, you mean?" he asked thoughtfully. "I'm not certain it would be clear enough."

Molly stood up, still holding onto his hand. "It's sort of like taking a picture, I guess, but it uses a special machine just for copying papers." She tried to peer over the desk from where they were. "You should have one here. Most libraries do."

Karal followed. "There is a machine down there," he pointed at what was, in fact, a photocopier, not that he knew it. "I have no idea what it is."

Molly beamed. "That's it! If you can show me some of the notes you need copied, I'll show you how to work the machine."

Karal looked back and forth between Molly and the machine. "Truly?"

"Molly, that's wonderful!" Karal, laughing, hugged her tightly. "That will save me so much time!"

Molly laughed with him and hugged him back. "Yay machines!" she said.
