Dealing With the Opposite Sex, Class #7, Friday, 2nd Period

Vala wasn't at all downcast as she watched her students arrive in the Danger Room Shop as she'd handwavily notified them to, for the last class of the summer. Really.

"Good morning, everyone. Before we start, I'd like to say how much I've enjoyed teaching you and hope you've found it to be as useful as I'd hoped you would. Also, I know this is a vast area, especially for those of you who may be more inexperienced, so if you ever have any questions, I have two ears and they're both mostly sympathetic. It also turns out I have an office, so you can find me there occasionally as well."

She cleared her throat. "At the end of class, there will be an opportunity to ask for answers to questions that are still bothering you. First, however, I'd like you to attempt a simulated date. No," she glanced at Jeff, "you can't have safety padding this time. But this isn't a high-pressure situation, either. You're just having a nice, quiet dinner in a lovely little bistro with someone whose ship you hijacked you saw on the street, thought looked interesting, and asked to join you. Your job is to make conversation and leave, without getting food dumped on you or a drink thrown in your face."

A fire extinguisher was also in a prominent and visible place next to every romantic candlelit table for two, just in case.

She worried at her lower lip, uncharacteristically solemn. "Now, as I ruin the mood completely, I'd ask you to please stay away from the woman who's squatting in Principal Washburn's office. If she calls you down there, don't go. Don't pull stupid pranks and don't vow eternal revenge. She's very definitely unbalanced and needs professional help. You have teachers--let us take care of the problem, just this once. None of you should be hurt."

"Thank you all for a wonderful class, and I hope you have fun."

Mod the waiter (and his or her friendliness and service). You have a red tablecloth, two place settings, and a lit candle on the table to work with, plus whatever food and drinks you order.

"Looking good, sweetheart." Johnny winked at her and waved the waiter over. "What'll you have to drink?"

Jaina picked a table, and decided this was probably the strangest start to a date she'd ever had.

Going through the tables, John paused at Jaina's and asked, "This seat taken?"

He was so very original.

"It looks pretty vacant so far," she said with a little smile. "Did you want to sit?"

"Seems the thing to do," John replied, slouching into the chair. "So, what shall we discuss?"

"Hm," she said thoughtfully. "What's really sad is I keep wanting to lead with 'do you come here often' and I just can't bring myself to do it."

Liz sat down at a table and tried not to feel nervous about this.

Robin hopped up into the chair opposite, and was only barely able to see over the table. "Well this isn't going to work." he said, and hopped up onto the table. "Hi."

Katara sat down across from Jeff, looking more than a little nervous herself. But he was the Best Roomie's Ever (tm) little brother, so it totally couldn't be that bad. Right?

As had become his custom during this class, Jeff's first reaction was to shoot up in his seat, knocking his legs against the table.

"I have a girlfriend!" he blurted.

Jeff flailed, at the apex of his anxiety. "You know!" he said, "She's got the hair and maths. Not exclusively maths, you know, she isn't some sort of-- calculator..."

Sam picked a table, but he was a little more worried about leaving Umbridge's office unattended than about dealing with a fake date.

Valentine took a seat. Practical experience never really hurt anyone before, right?



The mun is around for two more hours, then off to work for six hours, then here through the wee hours of the night again, if anyone has wonky availability and wants to play.
