Flight and Flying [Thursday, August 23, 3rd period]

Anakin was waiting for the students on the top of the apartment building in town, leaning up against a Lambda-class Imperial shuttle.

"Welcome to the Virgo," he said with a small smile before giving them a quick rundown of the general specifications of the ship. "It's twenty meters long and is generally used to ferry soldiers or cargo back home," he said. "It's also equipped with a hyperdrive--which we will not be using--as well as two forward-facing double laser cannons, two wing-mounted double cannons, and a rear-facing double laser cannon." He met each student's eyes. "Which we will definitely not be using. We're going to do a quick swing around the system here--we won't go out as far as Pluto, but since it's not a planet any longer, I doubt it will be that offended."

He waved a hand towards the ramp. "Come aboard."

Before he brought the shuttle back down to Earth, he stood in front of the students, eyes serious and hands tucked into the sleeves of his robes, Jedi to the inch.

"She can't hear us up here, so let me make this absolutely clear. Stay out of Umbridge's office. Stay off of her radar. It's not backing down, it's not letting her win, it's being smart. She is using her wand and she is trying to kill people. She just picked the wrong one on her first attempt." His lips were pressed together so hard they were white around the edges. "This isn't a game. This isn't a test to see how fantastically great you think you are. You stay. away. from. her. All of you."

Anakin's idea of a pep talk left something to be desired.

River nodded, being in complete agreement. She was not going back to Umbridge's office. It would have been nice to have been able to hold on to the kitten plate as a trophy though.

Anemone was trying very hard to sit still and not let her pride in the previous evening's actions go leaking out of her brain. Somehow she doubted Master Skywalker would be amused with their prank.

Well, he might be. After all, she hadn't gone in the office, and they had been very careful to stay away from the crazy lady. Still, she did her best to keep her glee internal.

Anakin caught some of it anyway and gave Anemone a flat stare. "Away from her," he repeated icily.

"I was." Anemone did her best to look contrite. "Crazy, not stupid."

He didn't look convinced. Or amused. "Uh-huh."

Marco raised a hand. "What if she doesn't know we're the ones who've been parking in her office?"

"Pray it stays that way," Anakin said flatly. "She's lost sight of reason."

"I doubt she can figure out that I'm the polar bear slash llama slash ... " He paused for a minute. "Um, whatever else I had. Annoying poodle!"

Anakin blinked. "Handy talent..."

"Is there anything I can do to help?" Qui-Gon asked seriously. This was, after all, the kind of thing Jedi were supposed to deal with.

Anakin considered the question carefully, then shook his head. "And I know how much I loathed being left behind as a Padawan," he said quietly, "but she's going after fully grown and trained adults now. Perhaps you can try to reign in your fellow classmates. They're going to get hurt--more hurt--she's losing her grasp on how things actually work."

He pressed his lips together. "It's why I check in daily."

"Could you maybe suggest to her to take a long walk off a short pier?" Qui-Gon asked jokingly. Well, mostly joking.

Anakin's mouth quirked up. "She's pretty stubborn," he said, "but I'll keep it as an option."

It was highly convenient for Aly that she found out that Anakin's class was on the top of her apartment building today. So she waited until the students had left and headed up to the roof. "It's a pretty ship," she commented. "If you're into that blocky, angular thing."

Anakin's eyes shone with pride as he looked back at it. "It's no starfighter, but it works," he said, walking towards her. "You'll survive?" he asked, scanning her face.

Small talk was for other people.

"Absolutely," she said, face impassive. "Wade's fine too though that was closer."

"Walk me through it," he demanded quietly. "What defenses does she have? Where did you catch her off-guard? How she got the drop on Wade. All of it."
