Flight and Flying [Thursday, August 23, 3rd period]

Anakin was waiting for the students on the top of the apartment building in town, leaning up against a Lambda-class Imperial shuttle.

"Welcome to the Virgo," he said with a small smile before giving them a quick rundown of the general specifications of the ship. "It's twenty meters long and is generally used to ferry soldiers or cargo back home," he said. "It's also equipped with a hyperdrive--which we will not be using--as well as two forward-facing double laser cannons, two wing-mounted double cannons, and a rear-facing double laser cannon." He met each student's eyes. "Which we will definitely not be using. We're going to do a quick swing around the system here--we won't go out as far as Pluto, but since it's not a planet any longer, I doubt it will be that offended."

He waved a hand towards the ramp. "Come aboard."

"Absolutely," she said, face impassive. "Wade's fine too though that was closer."

"Walk me through it," he demanded quietly. "What defenses does she have? Where did you catch her off-guard? How she got the drop on Wade. All of it."

Aly nodded and started detailing the points in a rather formalised report. "The main thing is the wand," she concluded. "She can do magic without the wand though, and that's where I was tripped up. We need to destroy it, not just get it out of her reach. She can heal incredibly well and quickly. I had two knives in her and it didn't slow her down that much. Wade got off a few shots and also knives. But I doubt the healing will be as effective without the wand, so again, that needs to be the target. I know where she's living, and from all I can tell, she feels completely safe there. Even with the events of this week, the protections on the house haven't changed. That's where I'd advise a strike."

Anakin nodded, filing all of the information away. "I can deal with the troopers if necessary," he said, "but it would be better if we could do this quietly enough that they don't notice anything." He blew out a breath. "Do you think it's time Zoe knows what's going on?" he asked quietly.

"Troopers won't be a problem if we bring the Sheriff in on this," Aly said softly. "And I want as many fighters as possible in." She nodded. "I think Zoe might actually kill us if we didn't. She's been kept out of the loop long enough."

Anakin nodded. "We had our reasons," he said, "and now Umbridge's stopped even pretending like the teachers have influence over her." He flexed his left hand. "I'd stop going, but I'm worried about what that might do to the students too stupid to not stop showing up in her office. I've been listening and I don't think she's used the quill since we came to our agreement."

Aly's jaw clenched. "No, she's moved onto worse things," she said harshly, her own anger showing. "I don't think anything's holding her back anymore. Not your deal, not a sense of anything resembling logic. I think we've all told our students to ignore her summons by this point. Most of them are finally wising up and listening."

Anakin felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. "What worse things?" he whispered.

"Using her wand to hold them down and force scars to reopen," she said quietly. "Throwing curses to cause some type of deep, scarring mage wound for no other reason than the person happens to be in my class."

His blood ran cold. "Who?"

"Zuko," Aly said, voice tight and furious. "He's healed - mostly healed - another student he knew did it."

Anakin's hands clenched into fists at his sides. "That's what sent you after her with knives?"

"No, that was yesterday," she said. "I went after her with knives for Gavin."

Anakin's heart stopped. "What did she do to Gavin?" he asked quietly.

The kind of quiet just before a thunderstorm--or a tornado--hits.

"Held him down with magic and forced his hand to bleed," Aly said, voice harsh.

Anakin's eyes blazed and his hand reached for the hilt of his lightsaber.

"Enough," he spat. "Long past enough. We're taking her down. Screw the consequences--there's a cliff with her name on it if she won't go quietly."

The look on his face said he kind of hoped she wouldn't.

"I'm good with a cliff as long as that wand is gone first," Aly said instantly.

Anakin was already running numbers in his head. "We'll need an assault team," he said, "and a screening back-up in case we don't work the first time, and people to watch the perimeter to stop headstrong students from interfering. Is Wade up for helping us out?"

"Wade would be insulted if he wasn't there," she said replied quickly, working the same numbers. "And he's healed from Tuesday. Sheriff's alchemy would useful as long as he knows he's not in charge. Squall possibly? And Ares."

"As long as he knows he's not in charge," Anakin agreed. "I don't want to be picking Umbridge out of the carpeting. Who are we missing? Arashi?" He bit his lip. "I want to keep the recent alum out of this," he said. "It's going to get messy. They don't need to see it."

She nodded. "Couldn't stop Arashi if Wade was going anyway. And Fraser. He'd be useful. Also to talk to Zoe and bring her in on it." Aly shook her head. "No, let's keep it to adults this time. The students have dealt with enough - alums or not. We should have a planning meeting. Tomorrow maybe, tonight's too soon to pull it together."

"Make sure they know that this is justice, not revenge and not getting our kicks," Anakin said, jaw clenched. "And that anyone looking for those other two things doesn't need to be there."

Aly nodded sharply. "I think the people we're talking about, it's understood, but it'll be clear."

"Start making ~~handwavey~~ calls tonight?" Anakin said softly. "Set it up tomorrow, take her down ASAP?"
