Flight and Flying [Thursday, August 23, 3rd period]

Anakin was waiting for the students on the top of the apartment building in town, leaning up against a Lambda-class Imperial shuttle.

"Welcome to the Virgo," he said with a small smile before giving them a quick rundown of the general specifications of the ship. "It's twenty meters long and is generally used to ferry soldiers or cargo back home," he said. "It's also equipped with a hyperdrive--which we will not be using--as well as two forward-facing double laser cannons, two wing-mounted double cannons, and a rear-facing double laser cannon." He met each student's eyes. "Which we will definitely not be using. We're going to do a quick swing around the system here--we won't go out as far as Pluto, but since it's not a planet any longer, I doubt it will be that offended."

He waved a hand towards the ramp. "Come aboard."

"She tried to kill someone?" Sam asked, feeling a little guilty for not being more aware of that.

Anakin nodded, lips tight. "Stay out of her way," he said, tone firm. "The taunts on the announcements about Aly and Deadpool? That's who she's talking about. And they're hardly pushovers."

"Don't worry, I don't intend to go to her office again. I learned my lesson the first time," Sam said. "Are they all right?"

"I'm seeing Aly later," Anakin said quietly, "and she said Wade was all right...eventually. Keep students out of that office, Sam. I don't care how you do it."

Frankly, Sam didn't know how he could do that, but he was more than willing to give it a shot if Umbridge was getting truly dangerous. "I'll try, I promise."

Some of the worry lifted from Anakin's eyes. "They're like moths to a flame," he said, "and we both know how well that works out for the moths."

"Especially since most of them don't seem to know how hot the flame is," Sam replied. "Or how much it seems to enjoy burning innocent people."

"Which, frankly, at this point is their own damn fault. There hasn't been a shortage of examples of what she does to people," Anakin said, rolling his eyes. "But I'm not going to stop saving people from themselves."

Sam couldn't resist smirking softly. "Some people are their own worst enemy in situations like this. I'll confess, I knew Umbridge was messing with people when I went to see her, and I went in anyway. But that was when she was making things come out of people's ears, and she wasn't actually hurting anyone. At least, not that we knew," he added. "Now that people know what she's capable of, it's insane to go near her."

"Bordering on suicidal," Anakin said flatly. "The teachers can't be everywhere at once, much as we'd like to be."

"And I think it's pretty safe to say that the students don't want any of the teachers getting hurt on our behalf. Especially the teachers we like."

Anakin gave him a small smile. "Then on behalf of the faculty I have to tell you suck it up," he said. "Better us than you."
