Library, Monday [2/19]

Yomiko had spent the entire weekend holed up in her basement, working on a translation of Russian fairytales for extra cash. So she had no idea anything unusual had happened that weekend. Sometimes, it paid to be oblivious.

Rikku waved to - man, she couldn't remember his name, but he was TA for one of her classes, right? She was pretty sure, anyway. And heck, she was nosy.

"Heya! What are you reading?"

Lucas looked up, wide-eyed. "That depends on which book you're referring to."

"Any of them!" Rikku hopped down next to him. "Are they, like, engineering ones? Those are the best."

"Well, some are about the history of Fandom, some others are on quantum mechanics and temporal mechanics - time travel."

Sokka walked out of the stacks carrying a few books on chinchillas, with a chinchilla on top, gnawing away at the corner of the top book.

He spotted Lucas and crept up behind his classmate all sneaky-like.

"Enjoy your date on Friday?" he asked suddenly and loudly from behind Lucas's left shoulder.

Lucas, being a normal teenage boy and not a super-sensitive ninja, jumped at the noise. He looked up at Sokka, not quite glaring, but getting there. "Sokka," he greeted. "Yeah, I did. Katara was a good date." He was past the nervousness and onto the standard 'provoke the brother' stance now.

"Good." Sokka grinned widely and patted Lucas on the shoulder. "Watch your back, though. Lay one finger on her, and... she'll mess you up."

He sighed confidently and strutted a bit. "Yup. I'd watch my temper around her, too, if I were you -- ow!"

Suddenly, he was no longer focused on Lucas. "Oooh, does someone want attention, yes he does, yes he doooes." He burbled and cooed to the chinchilla for a few moments while scratching it behind its ears, and then looked back at Lucas.

"Sooo.... what in the world is that?" he asked, nodding at the stack of books and notes.

After helping Dawn make spaghetti, Katara wandered down to the library to find another English book.

She saw Lucas and waved, not wanting to interrupt him too much.

Lucas grinned and waved back in an awkward, dorky fashion. He silently pointed out the free chair nearby.

Katara looked down at her 'basic reading of English' book and set it down carefully in a carrel before coming over to slide into the free chair. "Hi," she said, feeling particularly awkward herself.

When he thought Lucas wasn't looking, Sokka gestured at him and mouthed to Katara "he's a keeper."

While down in the library looking at books, Will noticed that guy from the Common Room the other night also down here looking at books.

"Hey, you! It's Lucas, right?"

She grimaced. "I don't think I'm doing that well in Forensic Science, so I'm hoping that the library has some kind of study guide to help me pass. You?"

Rikku had noticed the spare scrap of paper while searching for something in her desk, and remembered she hadn't actually pestered the librarian about it. No time like the present!

"Uh, hi there," Rikku smiled. "Do you know what this is? Or how I should go about looking up what this is? If it's anything?"

She held out the scribble she'd made of that weird symbol-thing the singing guy had been standing on. Well, it was kinda close ... right?

Sadly, Yomiko knew next to nothing of pop culture. "No, sorry. But this is a library, though, so maybe you could look it up? We have books on symbology!"

"Awesome, thanks!" Rikku bounced a little and wandered off to the stacks.

Libraries ruled.

The library was where you went for information, right?

Sokka walked into the library with a chinchilla on his shoulder, and headed straight for Yomiko.

"Hi," he said. "This is my new friend. What -- ow -- kind of animal -- ow -- is he?"

Sigh. Momo Junior was chewing on his ear.

Yomiko peered at the chinchilla. This, at least, she knew. "It's a chinchilla. A rather vicious one, it seems."

"He's not vicious, he's just -- ow! -- friendly! Or hungry. Maybe just bored. I dunno.

So, where are the books on chinchillas, then?"

Yomiko surreptitiously nudged her chair a little further away from the 'friendly' chinchilla. "You might try...hmmm. 636, animal husbandry? Three rows down, and over four cases to the left."

Sometime after her weird squid-filled class of the day ended, Will headed down to the library to get some extra study references.

"Uh, hi? You wouldn't happen to have like a study guide for dummies to Forensic Science, would you?"
