Library, Monday [2/19]

Yomiko had spent the entire weekend holed up in her basement, working on a translation of Russian fairytales for extra cash. So she had no idea anything unusual had happened that weekend. Sometimes, it paid to be oblivious.

"Good." Sokka grinned widely and patted Lucas on the shoulder. "Watch your back, though. Lay one finger on her, and... she'll mess you up."

He sighed confidently and strutted a bit. "Yup. I'd watch my temper around her, too, if I were you -- ow!"

Suddenly, he was no longer focused on Lucas. "Oooh, does someone want attention, yes he does, yes he doooes." He burbled and cooed to the chinchilla for a few moments while scratching it behind its ears, and then looked back at Lucas.

"Sooo.... what in the world is that?" he asked, nodding at the stack of books and notes.

Considering Sokka didn't even know about the geomagnetic pole, Lucas figured it was safe enough to tell him what was going on. "I'm learning as much as I can about temporal anomalies in Fandom history to see if there's some kind of pattern to them showing up. I figure it might explain why there are so many different people from different times and places. It's like Fandom is a focal point for tears in the space-time continuum."

Sokka blinked at him. "Yeah, riiiight," he said dryly. "There's something maaaagic" -- here there be spooky hand gestures -- "about Fandom that rips holes in the fabric of the universe and pulls us through. Sure, that's..." He paused. "That's actually a pretty good theory. What'd ya find?"

He'd been expecting mockery, which he received, but for Sokka to actually ask like he was interested? Kinda cool. Especially since he was starting to like Sokka's sister and wanted to get on his good side. "I found one of the tears. It's come back twice now and I've managed to get some readings on it. I think if I can experiment with it, I can figure out how it works."

More blinking. "Found one? Like, a real tear in the universe or whatever? That is SO. COOL!!! Where does it go?"

"A real tear," he nodded. "I don't know where it goes yet. I'm trying to find a record of its history in Fandom, see if it's shown up before now. If I can figure out the earliest time it was seen, that might give a hint as to when it opens up to, if it opens up to anywhere at all."

"When it opens up? You mean you think it goes back in time??? AWESOME."

He set down his stack of books -- which Momo Jr. seemed content to gnaw on, for the moment -- and picked up one of Lucas's. "I'll help!"

Sokka started -- well, you could call it skimming the book, but he was going very slowly. And moving his lips.

"Uh, I've got a better idea. How about I come and get you when I'm going to send something through? I could use some help setting everything up. Tomorrow."

Sokka looked a little hurt, but then looked thoughtfully at Katara and gave Lucas a sly grin. "Riiiiight."

He picked up his books and new pet. "C'mon, Momo Jr. Let's go home!"

As he was turning to leave he gave Lucas a thumbs up and mouthed "go for it!" at him.

Lucas gave his standard 'bzuh?' look in response to that.
