Criminal Justice [first period, Tuesday 11/14]

Students had been handwave alerted to the fact that the class would be held in the Danger Shop today, and so V was waiting for them when they all filed in.

"Good morning," V said as the simulation immediately placed them in the spacious, white lobby of a building. "Today, we'll be doing a tactical simulation. You and the partner you chose last week have a mission: to find the control room at the top of the tower. In it, there is a ticking device, which will have quite an impact on the entire city if you don't stop it. And no, the lifts aren't working. Your mission, young ones, is to make your way to the control room while dodging guards and personnel, and disengage the device using only your available resources, and to do so by the end of the period."

He tilted his head. "And for now, that means wits and no weapons, though you all do get maps of the building. Oh, and a final thing. The building is not empty. This is a business. The civilians haven't any idea what's going on, though, and you mustn't panic them. You may, however, ask them for assistance in such a way as to not alert them to the situation."

V clapped his hands once, and then retreated to fully start the simulation. He didn't want to be in it, if old friends showed up.

When you can shimmer, who needs elevators? Bel and Alanna took the easy way to the control room.

Alanna swallowed a few times. "Handy. Any ideas now?"

Bel peered at the bomb. "Fifty-fifty chance?" he said. "We cut one and I shimmer us out and we wait to see if it blows up or not?"

Alanna studied the bomb. "Yeah, unless you have some previously unknown bomb making/unmaking skills, that's the only way I can see. What happens if we cut both?"

"No clue," Bel said. "What if I just shimmer with it and drop it somewhere in the middle of the ocean?"

"And no one gets hurt." Alanna concluded. "Maybe middle of a volcano instead?"

Luke blinked at the device. "I have a bad feeling about this," he muttered.

Peter stared. "I'm right there with you." He circled the device slowly. "This is like some spy movie."

"Do you think the girl downstairs would be as impressed if I blew off my hand?" Luke asked.

Priorities, Skywalker. Priorities.

"Probably not, no," Peter replied. "Unless you saved her life while you were at it?"

Luke looked like he was considering this as a valid argument. "Maybe."

After making it past Gordon and Patricia, Jack and John have made it to the control room. Finally.

"Ticking thingy!" John said, pointing.

"Yup. And it's probably not an alarm clock," Jack replied, studying it carefully. "Any ideas?"

Re: Defuse the device

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2006-11-15 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Green means go, red means stop," John said, thinking out loud. "Except, wouldn't that be too easy?"

Re: Defuse the device

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-11-15 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Just what I was thinking." Jack delicately ran a finger along the wires and then flashed John a grin. "But if we assume one makes it go boom - or turn into a dancing bunny, or whatever weird thing's going to happen - and one makes it stop," he mused. "What if we pull both together?"

"Sorta like cancelling each other out?" John asked.

"Okay. Ticking. No problem."

Teddy flailed. "See, in my experience, bombs are never considered to be 'no problem.' Ever."

Re: Defuse the device

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-11-15 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Kawalsky pulled the Swiss Army Knife he'd received from Shop class last semester and used it to start to open the wire casing. "This is where the whole 'guns and explosives' training thing helps. Yeah, sure, I was taught how to put stuff together to make it explode, but the other half of the training is learning how to identify bombs and disable them so no one gets hurt. Not my favorite part of the job, but it makes for good conversation." He traced the wires back to the different parts of the bomb. "Now see, this bomb's pretty basic. Homemade by the look of it. That means it's likely to go up in our faces if we're not careful. What we've gotta do," he showed Teddy what he was doing since this was just about the only thing he was really good at. "Is make sure the wire connecting the timer to the detonator are severed. Then the spark can't get from one place to another, can't set the explosives off and can't blow us up." He looked at it for a few moments.

[identity profile] notthehulk.livejournal.com 2006-11-15 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Teddy looked at the bomb, trying to keep out of Kawalsky's way. Bumping someone who was trying to stop a very large explosive from going off really wasn't high on his list of things to do.

"Explosives training I wouldn't mind. Guns, on the other hand, no."

Charlie kept working. "I get not wanting to know how to use 'em to kill someone else, or even hurt 'em, but it's good to know what you're up against. If you know what kind of firearm the enemy's using, you can tell how much ammo it can hold before they have to reload or what range it's got."

When Aeryn gets to the room, that's when she really isn't sure what she's doing. She walks up to the device, studies it for a moment just to see what it's doing and how long she has, then picks up the pliers. And reminds herself that it's a bad idea to beat a bomb.

Of course she's never seen a movie with this sort of thing (Jamie, you're slacking), and so she takes both wires, trying to cut them both at once. One's gotta work.

Aeryn frowns at it, pulling a piece of silly string out of her face. If Flight Club counts, she's hypothetically dying weekly now.

Frelling glitter.
