Ethics (September 14, 6th period)

If the classroom looked a bit like a discount Swedish furniture store had exploded inside of it, well...at least the projectiles were now easily replaceable.

Which might be a good thing.

Precisely on time, Darth Vader swept into the room and slammed the door firmly behind him.

"Today we talk about lying," he said, his masked face scanning the faces in front of him as he prowled around the classroom.

"Everyone lies," he stated flatly. "To hide things, to manipulate others, to avoid...unpleasantness." There was a definite hint of scorn in his voice at that last example. "In class today, you are required to pair up and only tell the truth." His cape whirled behind him. "And I can tell if you are not. Such disobedience will result in detention."

He paused for a moment. "And I don't believe in that axiom where if you cannot say something nice, you don't say anything at all. I do not require you to be nice. I require you to be honest."

He crossed his arms over his chest. "Name. Place of birth. Classes you are taking," he barked out. "Proceed from there."

Sam sat down and waited for a partner. Hopefully this wouldn't be too painful--she was basically an honest person.

Isabel came over and took a seat. "For some reason I'm suddenly very, very grateful to Rita Skeeter."

Re: Class exercise!

Sam smiled at Isabel. "Do I want to know why?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Because she let the cat ouf the bag as far as the alien thing goes," Isabel explained, glancing towards Vader. "So I don't have anything to hide. Because otherwise I'm sure talk, dark and imperious over there would have no trouble blurting out the truth to the whole class."

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can see that," Sam said, also glancing at Vader, "I mean, being relieved about having nothing to hide. I'm not so sure he's the chatty type, though." Another wary glance--after all, this was the man(?) who had beat Anakin. That had to take more than just luck. "More the gather all the possible information he can and use it to the best strategic effect."

"You do have a point," she agreed. "I need to start thinking more like a soldier and less like a teenager. So. Anyway, I'm Isabel Evans. I was born, or hatched, in the desert outside Roswell, New Mexico and I'm taking Interstellar Relations, Bio, Campaigning, War theory and Ethics. How about you?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't rush it," Sam advised. "It'll come, but you're only a teenager once. You'll be a leader forever."

"Assignment, right. I'm Samantha Carter, and I was born in Germany, while my father was stationed overseas. I'm taking," she winced, "Dance, Music, Media and Communications, and Ethics. Want to trade schedules?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of."

Isabel shook her head at the offer of a schedule switch. "I'll pass. I am not musically inclined at al. Me in a dance or music class could be very embarassing."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Music's not so bad, but dance is a little awkward," she admitted, "mostly because I'm too self-conscious to be a good dancer. Or maybe because I don't know the steps. Plus, we've got two guys and seven girls, so partner dancing's a little uneven. Maybe I should just try to convince Jack and Cedric to crash." Or maybe Charlie and Cameron. "Think they would?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can bounce along in time with the beat but that's about it. That's why I like to stick to the slow stuff. It's more fun in some ways anyway." Isabel grinned, "I'm sure Jack would crash. Cedric might to if you asked. But he told me dancing at Hogwarts was different from here. So I'm not sure how well he would do as a partner."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, there's nothing wrong with slow dancing with your sweetie," Sam grinned, "and I highly recommend it. Which reminds me--do you and Greg know about Homecoming? Jack took four dates last year, although he's promised to cut that in half this year." She snickered, "and Cedric can't possibly be as bad as he thinks he is. Besides, it's a class. He can learn."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"We haven't done it nearly enough," she said. "Well there was the dance marathon but after the fourth hour it was more torture then fun." Isabel nodded, "I do at least. I've already started searching online for dresses. I've also been wondering who's going to turn up from the alumni. I'm not encouraged."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"My feet hurt in sympathy just thinking about that dance marathon," Sam groaned. "I don't know how the two of you managed as long as you did. And any luck finding dresses? I haven't started looking yet, though I probably should. Why aren't you encouraged about the return of the alumni?"

Sam's head started to hurt at the idea of what would happen if her suspicions were right, Anakin was still alive in their timeline, and he showed up at the dance. "I'd think for sure that at least Xander would be back."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know either, determination I guess. But we were eliminated when both fell asleep standing up." Isabel grinned, "I did find one that I really liked. So I ordered it. I'll have to see how it fits."

"As for the alumni, Anakin didn't think the Council would be willing to send him back for something so frivolous as a dance, particularly when he's not supposed to have the close ties he developed here," she explained. "Angel, Cal and Logan are possibly going to have killed one another in LA by then, and Xander's dimension has cut itself so there's no way he can come back."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, that's horrible about Xander," Sam said as she resolved to find something to help preoccupy Bridge, "and I'm sorry? Did you say Angel, Callisto, and Logan are all in Los Angeles? The same Los Angeles?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know. It sucks, I miss him. I at least thought I'd be able to call. And if it sucks for me, I can't even imagine how Bridge feels," Isabel said sadly. "And yes, the same Los Angeles. Parker and I called Angel last night and he told us." She snickered, just a little wickedly, "I suppose it would be really bad of me to start a pool on who throws the first punch?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Sam figured Bridge probably felt like his arm had been cut off, but didn't see the need to mention that. She pulled a ten dollar bill out of her pocket and handed it to Isabel. "My money's on Callisto for the first punch. And the second. And maybe the third. Is there a pool for staking?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Isabel took the money and put it in her pocket. "My money's on Callisto as well although surprise! Angel struck first with a sword. There isn't but there probably should be."

"But in the interest of actually following along with what we're supposed to be doing class and avoiding detention. I guess we should get back to questions. What do you plan on doing when you leave here?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Sam made a face. "Sure, pick a question I don't know the answer to. Top of my list right now is becoming an interstellar explorer/pirate type person and bumming around the galaxy with Kawalsky, since it sounds like I won't be able to become a Time Agent. Cam suggested teaching, but I don't think I want to do that. What about you? Going home?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sorry," she said. "Would you be interested in liberating a planet if you happen to be out there with nothing to do? I'm building an army of my own. Not that I know when we're going. We still have to find a way after all. But that's my big plan at the moment." Isabel frowned, "Why wouldn't you be able to become a Time Agent? I think with your experience you'd be good at it."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I could definitely be convinced to help, even if I'm out there with something to do," Sam said with a nod, "and I might be good at being a Time Agent, and it sounds like a blast, but it's not worth Jack losing his memory again. Depends on what the ultimate price is, I guess. What're you going to do once your planet's liberated?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks, I'll add your name to the list then. I think the Time Agency would be nuts not to take you," Isabel said sincerely. "But why would it involve Jack's memory? Have you heard anything? Because I'm prepared to use my new archery skills on anyone that tries."

She looked down, searching for answers on the blank notebook page in front of her. "Honestly? I'm not sure. The first thing is to survive. Remember, we've already died once. After that? I think I'd want to come home if I could. I don't remember Antar, so to me, home is here. Maybe then I'll finally get a chance for something normal."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Who else is on the list?" Sam asked, out of curiosity. Plus, she figured it counted as a question. "And thanks. I haven't heard anything about Jack's memory being taken again, but considering that was the price they extracted to accept Jack, I can't imagine what they'd want from him to give him a favor in return. He says it's very competitive to get in."

Sam leaned forward and whispered, "Death's not the worst thing that can happen, and goodness knows it's not always final. There are ways, if you're lucky." She sat up straighter, "Okay, so, normal girl. You've liberated a planet and come back to your home. What do you do?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aeryn for one and probably John since I can't picture him letting her go alone. Beyond that, I'm not sure. Maybe Bel, I don't know. I feel bad asking people to risk their lives for something that's not their fight."

"As for death, yeah, I know. I suppose they can do whatever it was they did the first time to make me," Isabel said wryly. "Although this time we can avoid the crash and if I'm making requests, I'd like to try life a redhead the next time around."

She snickered, "I suppose you're looking for a better answer then 'I'm going to Disney World'?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Sam couldn't help wondering if the Asgard would be willing to do them a favor. "There's no harm in asking people, Isabel. If they don't want to risk their lives, they'll just say no."

"A redhead? Really?" Sam couldn't help wondering how she'd look as a redhead. Wow, that was strange. Blonde she'd stay, thanks. She grinned, "And Disney World's completely doable. I don't think I've been there before."
