Ethics (September 14, 6th period)

If the classroom looked a bit like a discount Swedish furniture store had exploded inside of it, well...at least the projectiles were now easily replaceable.

Which might be a good thing.

Precisely on time, Darth Vader swept into the room and slammed the door firmly behind him.

"Today we talk about lying," he said, his masked face scanning the faces in front of him as he prowled around the classroom.

"Everyone lies," he stated flatly. "To hide things, to manipulate others, to avoid...unpleasantness." There was a definite hint of scorn in his voice at that last example. "In class today, you are required to pair up and only tell the truth." His cape whirled behind him. "And I can tell if you are not. Such disobedience will result in detention."

He paused for a moment. "And I don't believe in that axiom where if you cannot say something nice, you don't say anything at all. I do not require you to be nice. I require you to be honest."

He crossed his arms over his chest. "Name. Place of birth. Classes you are taking," he barked out. "Proceed from there."

"Sorry," she said. "Would you be interested in liberating a planet if you happen to be out there with nothing to do? I'm building an army of my own. Not that I know when we're going. We still have to find a way after all. But that's my big plan at the moment." Isabel frowned, "Why wouldn't you be able to become a Time Agent? I think with your experience you'd be good at it."

"I could definitely be convinced to help, even if I'm out there with something to do," Sam said with a nod, "and I might be good at being a Time Agent, and it sounds like a blast, but it's not worth Jack losing his memory again. Depends on what the ultimate price is, I guess. What're you going to do once your planet's liberated?"

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks, I'll add your name to the list then. I think the Time Agency would be nuts not to take you," Isabel said sincerely. "But why would it involve Jack's memory? Have you heard anything? Because I'm prepared to use my new archery skills on anyone that tries."

She looked down, searching for answers on the blank notebook page in front of her. "Honestly? I'm not sure. The first thing is to survive. Remember, we've already died once. After that? I think I'd want to come home if I could. I don't remember Antar, so to me, home is here. Maybe then I'll finally get a chance for something normal."

"Who else is on the list?" Sam asked, out of curiosity. Plus, she figured it counted as a question. "And thanks. I haven't heard anything about Jack's memory being taken again, but considering that was the price they extracted to accept Jack, I can't imagine what they'd want from him to give him a favor in return. He says it's very competitive to get in."

Sam leaned forward and whispered, "Death's not the worst thing that can happen, and goodness knows it's not always final. There are ways, if you're lucky." She sat up straighter, "Okay, so, normal girl. You've liberated a planet and come back to your home. What do you do?"

"Aeryn for one and probably John since I can't picture him letting her go alone. Beyond that, I'm not sure. Maybe Bel, I don't know. I feel bad asking people to risk their lives for something that's not their fight."

"As for death, yeah, I know. I suppose they can do whatever it was they did the first time to make me," Isabel said wryly. "Although this time we can avoid the crash and if I'm making requests, I'd like to try life a redhead the next time around."

She snickered, "I suppose you're looking for a better answer then 'I'm going to Disney World'?"

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Sam couldn't help wondering if the Asgard would be willing to do them a favor. "There's no harm in asking people, Isabel. If they don't want to risk their lives, they'll just say no."

"A redhead? Really?" Sam couldn't help wondering how she'd look as a redhead. Wow, that was strange. Blonde she'd stay, thanks. She grinned, "And Disney World's completely doable. I don't think I've been there before."

"I suppose, especially since it's all hypothetical at this point. No Granolith, no way home."

Isabel shrugged, "It's just a whim I guess. I'd dye it to see how it would look one day, but with my skin tone I doubt it would work. Maybe I'd have to check the DNA catalog if they had one. You know, from all the people they abducted over the years." She stopped, not certain if Sam realized she was kidding. "I am just kidding you know."

"We went to Disneyland a few years ago. But from what I've heard it's not the same."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Granolith?" Sam hadn't heard that term before. "And maybe you could go light red, instead of a color like Alanna's? Zero might have an idea."

"Hey, speaking as a technical abductee? You could end up close to the same color blonde," she laughed, pointing to her own head. "And it could be fun to go. We'll make plans to go, as soon as the planet's safe."

"It was something that came with us," Isabel explained. "It's gone now."

"For the time being I'll stay blonde. Greg likes it." Yes, she did blush. "And celebratory trip to Disney sounds like a great idea."

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well...if you ever find another one, I'll be happy to help." Sam grinned at Isabel, then teased, "I'm glad he likes it. Because you know he is the hair guru. And it's a date."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks Sam, I appreciate it." The blush deepened a bit. "He does have a bit a a fixation. But it's fun. Although one of these days I'm going to steal all his gel again. It was fun watching him panic without it after it got all used up the weekend of singing and dancing."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It was Sam's turn to blush now. "I'm so very, very sorry about that and probably owe him some gel. Holy hannah, I didn't mess up being a teenager so bad the first time."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh don't worry about it. I thought it was funny as hell," Isabel grinned. "English Peter tried to ask me out to the drive-in. And for the record, you weren't a teenager in Fandom the last time."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Technically, I'm not a teenager in Fandom this time, either," Sam said dryly.

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Bah, minor point. You're in a teenaged body. You have teenaged hormones," she said. "That's all that matters."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, the hormones are definitely teenaged," Sam said with a roll of her eyes. "Either that, or Jack Harkness is human catnip. It's almost ridiculous. Plus we do better together if we don't talk."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Jack as human catnip. I can see that," she grinned. "What happens when you talk?"

"Generally, one of us will say something that makes the other of us realize that we're more emotionally involved than we meant to be, and have to struggle not to run out of the room, screaming in terror. Or maybe that's just me."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Nah, it's not just you. He's not used to be emotionally involved," Isabel said quietly. "I think it terrifies him at times, he just covers it up with a smile and some flirting."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Sam kept her expression carefully blank. "I told him I loved him, and I wasn't sure either one of us were going to survive the experience. He was so surprised he couldn't even flirt. It got better once I explained about not having to return it, though."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh Sam." Isabel thought for a moment, remembering how Jack had reacted the first time she'd said she loved him. And their relationship was simple compared to the complex relationship he had with Sam and Cedric. "I don't know though, from what I've seen, Jack uses flirting as a defense when he's trying to hide something. If he stopped flirting maybe he wasn't hiding."

"Anyway, I think there was almost a race for the door, since I was as surprised as he was," She smiled slightly, "We got through it, but I don't think it's usually a reason for a couple to break up, and we almost did."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not fun when things just slip out like that," Isabel nodded. "I'm glad you did get through it though. It would be a hell of a reason for a break up. I think there would have been a line of people looking to thwap both of you for being ridiculous."

Re: Class exercise!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"A line," she nodded. "I would have been at the head of it. You're good for each other. And admitting that you care about him, hell, even that you love him, is no reason to go running for the hills."
