Study Hall - Monday, September 19th

Welcome to the study hall for Monday.

I spent yesterday in my tower room with a bottle of Captain Morgan and a carton of cigarettes and I haven't held a gun in twenty-four hours. Needless to say, I am not in the best of fuckin' moods, and the first student to try anything is getting detention. Hell, the first teacher to try anything with me may get detention.

*glares at students across the study hall teacher's desk, props her booted feet on the corner of the desk, and flashes a dirty look to everybody who walks past*

Your announcements for today:

-- As some of you who didn't already know may have found out this weekend, we do have werewolves on campus. The curfew is there for a reason, people. And on the nights of the full moon, you WILL be in your dorm rooms by the time the moon rises. No exceptions.

-- For anyone who may have missed it, homecoming's coming up soon. Also, [livejournal.com profile] fandomhitunes has arrived.

-- The door of locker 327 is stuck open and won't fucking shut. There's your warning.

-- The cafeteria will be serving any meal you ask for today on request, but please keep in mind that the cafeteria workers think someone poured a potion or something into one of the vats, and since they were pretty sure it wasn't hazardous, they went and started serving anyway. I really have to fire those fucking bastards sooner or later.

Jesus, I need a gun. *squirms*

Maybe if I just hold a water pistol, it'll take the edge off ...

Elizabeth nods. "Excellent. Have you ever been involved with politics before... school politics, obviously."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a good question. What *can* we advertise as the experience you two have had? Something that isn't "classified", please."

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs*

Well, it's in my blood. my dad... uh, my graddad was a senator for two terms. As for other, non-classified... *thinks back* I was class president at my last school, and before then, I served on the council.

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker taps her fingers on the table. "Good enough. Someone who knows more than just the Rules of Order means the students won't have to wait while you get your feet. As far as I can tell," her mouth twists, "Malfoy's sole experience in politics has more to do with smear campaigns than anything else."

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth winces slightly. "I've dealt with a number of smear campaigns. And if I have to, I know how to use them as well. But I'd rather not. I've seen them come back and bite you on the ass in the future"

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"If it's the truth, it's not a smear. Even if it *is* probably confidential info, I think it's something the student body should know-- if Angelus and Belathazor have been hiding this stuff, it brings into question their motives for being here, as well as what they'd plan for the school.

Still, that's why we wait for solid proof. Not speculation.

Anything in your past that anyone could smear either of *you* with?"

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth thinks. "Well, there's all the classified stuff that I've got. If they catch wind of that..." She hesitates. "There's nothing bad in it, but they might use it, saying that I'm not who I say I am."

She pauses, and thinks some more. "I was arrested once, but it was in Africa, and it was all a misunderstanding. I just happened to be a white woman with brown hair. And I was also slightly older at the time"

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good to know. As for the 'classified' we can spin that if it comes out, but it's why I'm not going to push it forward in the campaign. It's not relevant unless they *make* it relevant."

"How about you, Cuddy?" Parker says, turning to the potential President. "Anything you've done -- aside from interact with Max Fischer, which, hey, who hasn't-- that could detract on the campaign?"

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
She sighs. "I hope they don't. Even though the experience I have there would most likely work in our favor; I'd really like to keep it quiet. Although maybe if they did get hold of it, the AF could lock them up for it"

[identity profile] lisacuddy.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"The Max incident is pretty much it. One other student had a bad reaction to a vaccination I administered, but he had proper warnings as to possible complications so I can spin it if they bring it up. I don't know if he'll dare to bring it up or not, because he could get nailed by the pricipal for taking a swing at a kid at the same time and might not take that risk. And I can always talk to the girlfriend, I spoke to her once. Hopefully he'll stay out of it, but he may be aligned with these JA kids. I wouldn't be surprised. I'll feel him out.

Other than that, there is my history with Dr. House, but even if that comes out he'll have my back so it should be a non-issue."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good to know. Any chance the other medical assistants will want to help on the campaign? Posters, websites, flyers, buttons, a booth, all that PR crap?"

Parker frowns. "I've got enough enemies that we definitely need a few more people in on this. Otherwise people will vote against you two just to get back at *me*. That would be completely counter-productive."

I have an extensive resume from my former school with as a Student Council representative and as a hospital intern. Here I run the Science Club, have a stellar GPA, and connections with the Science Department. I also work in the clinic, although we might not want to push that as much due to some disgruntled students, although I'm sure I can get support from the other volunteers, as well as students whom I've helped with various other issues. (Gremlin storage, for example.) With Max out of the picture, that helps.

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Excellent. Again, indicates you can get things done, and aren't sqeamish, as well."

Parker frowns. "How are you two on public debates? Getting Malfoy to put his foot in his mouth in public is fairly easy, but getting an audience for it would be even better."

Janet overhears that from her seat a table over and giggles at Parker's sour tone.

(OOC: No need to resopnd if you don't want to. But it was deeply amusing.)

[identity profile] lisacuddy.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have at my former school, I served on the student council and have lots of other experience to draw from."

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That's cool. I do too... especially the other experience... *grins*

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Any kind of public debating you've done? I think it's just a matter of time before the JA puts up another candidate for Vice President. They're undoubtedly going to see the same advantages we do in a united ticket."

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've debated a number of things... mock trials, with my da... granddad and I've seen enough of the senate to know how not to do it.

And there's even just the debating with the parents about curfew." She laughs.

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmmmm. Curfew." Parker starts scribbling on her ubiquitous pad of paper again. "Which brings up our platform: what are we going to promise the student body, if you two win? Aside from your bodies between us and the administration, I mean. Something tangible. What are the changes that need to be made around here? What can you actually deliver on, that the JA crowd can't?" She taps her pad with her pen. "That may require more thought. Which reminds me... I need to get an election committee together. Either of you know anyone who's got time on their hands?"

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"The things that really seem to get most of the students going are the food, and the new weapons control. I guess we could probably do something about the food... after all, the teachers that live in would probably back us up, as they have to eat it too. The weapons would be harder, and we might not want to associate ourselves with it, as there are some students who welcome the change.

Election committee... election committee. I'll ask around at those I trust, and see if they've got the time, or can suggest someone who does. Off the top of my head... Cally, perhaps?"

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cally. Cally, Cally... oh, right. Yes, she might be good. She knows a lot of people. And she's good in a crunch."

"I think you've nailed a good issue there-- the food *is* one of the drawbacks to this place. Maybe at least introducing an alternative source, a concession or a cheap take-out service. We'll have to research to see how difficult that would be."

*more scribbling, then Parker turns to listen to Cuddy*

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll probably see her when I go back to the dorms, so I'll ask her then, if you like?

We'll probably need to get in with some of the townies. Maybe the owner of Luke's diner? Isn't he Rory's step-dad? We could talk to her, perhaps?

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, that's not bad. Not bad at all. Maybe check in with the Perkulator too; I know they deliver coffee, but muffins or anything else they've got, at least for breakfast, can't hurt."

[identity profile] lisacuddy.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll see who I can pull together. I agree with Lizzie that we should probably stay away from the weapons issue - too decisive, and out of our hands. Do we have any idea what their strategy is?"

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker looks sour. "None. Aside from get at least one of their guys in every office, and hey, it's not a bad strategy. I think we can counter it by limiting our campaign efforts to you too-- less diffusion-- and also by maybe pointing out that domination of the council by one clique can't be good for the rest of the Student Body."

Parker narrows her eyes. "I might attend a meeting of the JA, since they're looking for new members, in order to get a feel for what they're up to-- but I don't expect anything to come of it except for a better idea of the personalities involved. The only ones I've interacted with personally are Angelus and Malfoy; I don't know anything about Belthazor personally, and the rumors about Faith are getting too wild to take seriously."
