Constant Vigilance #4: Friday the 3rd, Morning. Serenity Cove.

Today, the class meets on the beach, to accomadate the student who has a bit of an aquatic problem at the moment. The Doctor set out beach blanket and towels, and has hauled the holoprojector out on a cart.

"Pass forward your requests I asked for, thank you. As I let you know, we're switching things around a bit. Vampires and werewolves will be at a later date. Today is simply 'Close Encounters of the Unattractive Kind'. Now, please remember, that it's not so much that I find these species particularly unpleasant, it's just we might as well show some of the more unsavory aliens out in the world. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. I'll be taking questions today, but no lecturing today. It's called close encounters for a reason. You'll be talking to the projections, trying to gather what you can from them. Ask them whatever. Remember they can't actually hurt you, but please only antagonize them if you're being terribly clever about it. There is no assignment for next week. Time for you all to put on your 'first contact' thinking caps. The projector will be sending out three different aliens. Talk to at least one, please."

The Doctor smiled, then turned on the projector. Three forms appeared...

The third projection appears to simply be a human in a silverish suit with a domed helmet.

That is, until it pulls off the helment to reveal a large, domed head with squat features. It licks its lips with an ugly red tongue after removing the helmet.

The creature eyed Kaylee. "You must be part of the weaker species of the planet."

"Your bone structure and muscle build is not as strong as the others," Styre replied. "You are less suited for battle."

The creature stands proudly. "I am field major Styre of the glorius Sontaran Empire."

John gave a salute. "I am John Connor, son of Sarah Connor, vindicator of the Human Resistance. So, tell me, how fares the Sontaran Empire?"

The Sontaran did not have an eyebrow to raise. But if he did, he would have raised it.

"Weaker species of Earth, greetings."

Phoebe was curiously watching him for a moment and then she greeted him, moving her tail in the surf. "Hello."

"I was not aware of a third sentient species of this planet," Styre said. "I shall need to conduct some tests upon you."

"Tests? Like what kind of tests?"

"You appear to be aquatic," Styre said. "We would need to test your body's conductivity to electricity and other durabilities."

The lip-licking was disturbing Conner. A lot. He had enough to be disturbed by today without the extra help.

So he went with the most innocuous question he could think of. "So, uh, nice helmet. How's the visibility in that thing?"

"I see perfectly in it," the Sontaran replied. "The Empire is most intelligent when it comes to matters of uniform."

"Hello. What are you and where are you from?"
